Well done John, I don't think too many people would have been there especially over the last few years.

Hi Batsy.

I walked and skied in the area in the 80’s and 90’s. In those days the mine and the battery (down on the West Kiewa logging track) were still in use. I met the owner once. He was the most powerfully built man I have ever seen. All the mining was done the old fashioned way- by hand.

I have not visited the mine since the 2003 bushfires.

Was the mine operating when you were there?

Cheers, John

Went in there a couple of years ago with a local group. Mine abandoned. Drove to the bottom & observed the remnants of the machinery & buildings. Must have been terrifying . Quite a challenging drive but worth it. Love the High Country but like most places it's a fair way away.
Cheers

Red Robin mine is significant to Victoria. Bill Spargo discovered gold there in 1940 and set off Victoria’s last gold rush. The mine was claimed to be the richest in the state- 112 ounces per ton.
