According to records. The official start was in Jimbour on the Darling Downs in Queensland and ends just above the Great Australian Bight on the Nullarbor Plain in South Australia. The fence took about 5 years to build & probably started in several areas at the same time
Probably comes down to what state you come from on how you see it anyway

Do you want me to spoil it and give the answer straight away, or give the other punters a go?

No, I will still give the other punters a fair go , but with give a few hints......

The Town was originally founded in 1876 and the given name for the town then was Pickering.

In 1940, the name was changed from a Pickering to its current name.....

So what is my name now?

The original jetty was 155m long and at low tide had a depth of 2.1 metres deep.

The the introduction of the lime burning industry, the jetty was extended a further 18 m

So now it is 173m long.

How do I score so far......lol

Duncan, Batsy,
There are "Black Stumps" all over the place. I have seen signs mounted at several in NSW and QLD.
The one at Blackall just seems to be more formally promoted and with stronger claim.
There was even a building in Adelaide tagged "The Black Stump" because of its bland charcoal colour. It was the home of Santos in the 70's and I worked in it.
Cheers

If it’s is or was once part of the dog fence, it must be in Queensland

I haven’t got a clue, but have made these observations:

The post appear to be very old, but has no apparent holes if it were part of a fence, though “they” may have just wrapped wires around the post.
There appears to be a cement slab, or path, in lower LHS.
On left, there appears to be a track, or road?
Across the watercourse there seems to be 2 posts, though it’s difficult to be sure.
There may have been a blaze on RHS of post?
Grass is Button Grass, with couple of tussocks of Buffel Grass, over towards the trees.

No, still haven’t got a clue!

Bob

I thought it was one of those large cast tanks where all the cut eucalyptus branches were placed, then a fire started and that’s how they collected the pure oil. Are you referring to that tank with the mesh top? As that was as far as we know used for eucalyptus oil production.

Sorry for stuffing that one up

I know they had a dairy there, so now you have me stumped, what was it?

You are correct Stephen, the 'tank' on the right is the 'cooking pot' where narrow leaf mallee (only found on Kangaroo Is..) was boiled, the tank on the left was the cooling tank.
