I'm hoping to see if we can get ExplorOz wheelcovers back in stock again in a few weeks but local production and cost is a major issue I've had to try to overcome. So, we've put together a draft concept of a new design using just white on black vinyl (mono) which will keep costs down considerably. As you can see we wanted to move away from the big logo and find something more modern. We've also had lots of requests to make a sticker or something using the words "I'm an ExplorOz Traveller" so we incorporated that into the design. We welcome your comment/feedback as we're only in early stages of getting quotes etc.

yes we can probably work on that although I know the artist like this graphic...
and what about no van/ct? does the message still feel applicable to everyone without one pictured?

The proportions and perspective of the graphic are pleasing to the eye, IMO - as you'd expect from an artist!! Addition of a trailer of some sort might detract from that. Maybe see what the artist can do to give your audience some options?

My Jeep comment is mostly (but not entirely!) tongue in cheek. Perhaps some kind of generic tourer image in the same style?

I like the way it's going, it's refreshing.

Cheers

Thanks Frank, the artist is our 19yr old son, who yes is an artist - we have to pay him of course. I do agree somewhat with your vehicle comment - its not that difficult to sort out a change.

Agree about detracting with a trailer - that's why its not there but you never can tell what people will find as as a show-stopper! Hence putting this up here for comment. We can do anything!

I think we'll just modify the grill/front end of the Jeep to make it more Toyota like. Easy done.

"Does it have to be a Jeep?"

As a former Wrangler owner, that was my first thought too, LOL.

Sorry, I'm not creative so I don't have much in the way of constructive design. But given how rare Wranglers are in Oz (compared to the US), the Wrangler resemblance does seem odd. Perhaps the artist is a Wrangler fan. :)

"and what about no van/ct? "

That sounds like producing two different wheel covers. One for the campers and one for the towers. Just KISS and keep to what you have with a change of grill.

Jeeps would look OK if the smoke came off the car? lol

Perhaps a 40 series would look the part?

No van or C/T is quite OK

I'm OK with the Jeep ......... so long as you are being paid for it . There's a thought ...... maybe VW can sponsor the covers !! Or Toyota, Nissan, etc etc

No caravan or camper is quite OK.

Cheers

No C/van or C/t does not matter at all.My thoughts are that the graphics should prompt the viewer to ask two questions
who is Exlpor Oz?

what do they do ?

Just a thought RegardsJohn Y

Sorry to disagree but to my mind it identifies the wearer as an ExplorOz member nothing more .More of a member recognition signal .The concept of updating the image is great.

The concept is great however just remember the old rule we worked on in my advertising days
KISS ("keep it simple stupid " ) in other words try not to make it too busy
and try and keep it generic. unless you have sponsor in mind

great idea though time for new wheel covers on both spares at this end

just adding my 2 bob's worth

But I would say that's what we've done? Isn't it simple now? Sorry just wanted you to clarify if there is a problem you see with the current design and if so, what.

I would not buy one if the vehicle depicted was not the same as mine.
Problem is I drive a "minority" vehicle and will be discriminated against in that regard. :(

The only option for me then would be a wheel cover with no vehicle depicted at all unless you embrace the best of modern technology, have a library of graphics which include dozens of popular vehicles and some less popular ones too.

It is not a big deal these days to ink jet each item to order, (not sure about funny shapes though?)
2 colours, 3 sizes (??) of covers in stock, all blank....,......
"Please send me a large white one with design # 154 (which is also 4 colour)."
Take a blank one off the shelf, place in printer, choose design from the menu, print. All done in 30 seconds.

Everyone gets a design they like and want and it becomes a personal "must have" at a premium price, if you choose. Or the customer provides their own digital design (you add the ExplorOz bit around the outside).

Worth some investigation?
You can already buy an ink jet printed carpet for your lounge room floor. Mine will have a map of Australia with all our travelled tracks on it :)
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Michelle,

Love the concept, simple & to the point. I would definitely be interested in one. No matter which vehicle you choose, you will not please everyone. Will there be a choice of sizes available? There are quite a few different size wheels around these days, most popular 4X4’s come with either 16”, 17”, or 18” wheels. Then there are different tyre sizes for the same size wheel. Same goes for caravans & camper trailers. Then as Peter has pointed out, there are the “odd” size vehicles out there as well.

I think the ExplorOz word blends in too much, it needs to stick out a bit more, maybe different font or size (colour would be good but at what cost).

Michelle,
Given the consensus about omitting c/vans and c/trailers, do you even need the vehicle? The one depicted implies a heavy duty 4WD but, as you know, we "explorers" use a great range of conveyances ranging from bicycles to horses, light AWDs, OKAs etc. Some even do it on foot. For that reason could the vehicle be replaced by just a person sitting at the fire?

I quite like Equinox's suggestion about adding some stars - logically the Southern Cross.

Overall, the concept is terrific - it is very thought-provoking and even has an implied message for the post-Corona Virus period.

I like Rogers suggestion regarding omitting the vehicle & replacing with a couple of people, also the Souther Cross.

I like the simple black and white concept. Like the fire, tent 50%- too simple? Vehicle,-to many variables.
My suggestions would be a camp scene with a fire and half a tent either looking down a rd disappearing into the distance ( symbolizing the need to explore further) or a starry night sky.

In line with the previous coloured design, I would prefer a stylised outline Map of Australia, with "I'm an ExplorOz Traveller" across the middle and the Website along the bottom as depicted.
Simple but meaningful.

No need for a vehicle, tent, or a campfire graphic.

How about a map of Australia with state borders with just lines where some of the major tracks are around the country, with I'm an ExploreOz traveller going across the Bight. That would tell every one what the site is about, black and white would stand out. Just another thought.

Love the design. Like the campfire and tent... that’s what we do. Camping/exploring.

Main thing: maybe make the vehicle less Jeep and more Troopy or at least muddy the waters a bit here, lest we upset the ubiquitous Ute owners.

I’ve never had.. and probably will never will have a Troopy but it seems better than a Jeep.
