Barrett 910 auto tune service

I reckon the earthing is very important to get right so if thats ok and its working ok there is no need to go any deeper.

I recently installed my Barrett 2050 and 910 into our new car and rang them to see if it needed servicing or any firmware updates or the like and he said not to worry about anything unless it stopped working or started to perform badly.

Unless of course you are a tech or something and are fully comfortable with that kind of thing.

No way I would be opening it up anyway.

Have you used it recently?

Barrett have a R and R service if the transmitter or antenna are playing up.
Nothing serviceable inside, the earlier cases didn't have a breathing valve so can suffer from condensation inside in various circumstances.

Let “sleeping dogs” lay ! There is a full length printed circuit board inside with hoards of ‘gizmos’ on it, plus multiple electrical relays that employ different antenna wire lengths (for the range of frequencies available). Mine is a blue model...the break apart point has an O ring for water sealing. I did need mine repaired once...as mentioned above, Barrett can point to your nearest approved repairer, should the need arise.

Then unit is micro processor controlled, lots of relays inside that can cause issues.

I pulled my unit down when it went faulty ie wouldn't tune, started off doing it very occasionally and gradually got worse.

If you can hear it try and tune then also check RF cable, if you can't here it try and tune check control cable and RF cable. Barrett tech said relays or bad earthing most likely, earthing was good on my unit so most likely a relay.

I pondered replacing them ( replace the lot if one is faulty) but as the case had some cracking decided for reliability to replace the unit with a new one. That was the next problem, new units are very big, to tall for me to be able to get car into the garage so asked Barrett if they could make me up a new old unit which they did. Once installed no more issues.

Yes,, I did that once in my life,., and those parts worked out quite effectively.

I have the Barrett 2019 Autotune with a Barrett 2050, last year I noticed hairline cracks in the housing and decided to disassemble the antenna and inspect. As suspected the cracks caused water to suck in to the housing due to expansion and contraction especially after some heavy rain.
On disassembly a good deal of water came out and I was shocked that the antenna had still been working perfectly.
