Well you have the regional location correct, somewhere along the Great Ocean Road, but it is a pretty long road. As a hint, this particular spot is popular with surfers.

Took a fair bit of "goggling", but I am pretty sure it is Smythe Creek, and the low headland in the far distance would be
Apollo Bay.

Bridge...
...but I can't remember a tree behind the car when I was there. It could have grown in the last few years though.

To be honest, the only reason I remember the car is that I spent a considerable amount of time looking at it - trying to avoid another traveller who was so obnoxious I wanted to throw him of the
bridge.
An 8 month holiday and I only came across 2 individuals I wanted to cause a mischief too!
The other was an American anthropologist who knew it all and she was happy to tell you! Totally stuffed our campfire at
Koonalda Homestead.
On the car, i am pretty sure there was a sticker of a "Fish" on it that a traveller was using to mark all the
places he/she visited. If you saw one you will remember it - we saw them all over Oz.

If you have been to
Algebuckina Bridge, and camped there, it is fairly easily recognised. The history surrounding the wrecked car is that when the “old” Ghan line was still in operation, the car was left on the tracks, can’t remember if accidentally or on purpose, but it was struck by the train and pushed off the tracks. It has never been removed, and is still there to this day.

From memory Macca...
The river was flooded so the driver of the car tried to use the
Bridge to cross. As he crossed, the train was coming in the opposite direction and he bailed. The result is the photo!
I have got a photo of the story
plaque at the
bridge - will see if i can dig it up.

Anthony what you saw was a stencil from "The Carp".
I'd love to meet "The Carp" because he turns up in the lot of
places I do. He has left his little mark all over Australia particularly on the backs of road signs.
His stencils are usually a lot smaller than this one.
