good morning all,
For those that don't know we in W.A have a loverly little lake in the south west called
Lake Jasper. I myself personally, I have never been there but I am sure some of our intrepid travellers have. What I would like to know from such persons is, can you get a caravan of 23ft length in to the
campground, as we would like to go and pay the said lake a visit. with our caravan, and if we cant can we get some idea where we could
camp up for a couple of days as some one has to go back to work after her break.
your reply's are eagerly awaited

Its been a long time since i have driven in, years ago a lot use to tow ski boats in (i'm pretty sure they are now banned from the lake) & they struggled when the sand/track was torn up & if there had been a lot of rain there use to be big deep/long puddles on the track, There are several ways in from Pemberton &
Black Point in summer the fly's were always bad
If the track has not been up graded should be interesting towing a 23' van in, let us all know how you go if you decide to go

Broodie - I'd have to say your chances of getting a 23' caravan into
Lake Jasper undamaged, would be next to nil.
It's a lovely spot, but the last time I was there, was in 1990. We had 4 trail bikes and an old SWB Nissan Patrol, and it was a pretty rough track, back then.
As the track is not graded, and has never been graded to my knowledge, I'm sure another 3 decades of 4WD'ers using it, hasn't improved it one iota.
On top of that, officially, there's only three campsites at the Lake. So, good luck with trying to find a van site.

This mob in the link below have some fairly recent photos, my photos probably wouldn't be relevant any more, and it would probably take me an hour to find them! [:-)

The Lake has been closed to powerboats since May 2012.
Cheers, Ron.

thank you very much Ron for your input,it is greatfully received, we'll just have to find some where else to drop the van and go and have a look.
thank you

you might get a 23 foot van in there but don't expect it to get in without some damage. The campgrounds are suited to tents , if you have a CT you could get to other little spots around the lake . Best bet would be to base yourself in
nannup or
northcliffe or some other freecamp close by and make it a day trip and also take in stepping stones as
well

Hi peter ,
that is just my kind of country, thank you very much for the pictures. We have decided to base ourselves at
Augusta and then do day trips out from there.

I just realised, the car in front was a couple of Swiss "backpackers" that we met in the
Kimberley and got along with
well in 2007. We have visited them in Switzerland several times since and they have visited us in Oz a couple of times too.
We are right now camped in
Deep Creek Conservation Park in SA with them after spending 8 days on
Kangaroo Island.
They are now married with a couple of kids :)
Goes to show.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi peter n Margaret,
It does not surprise us as we have made a few close friends just by driving around Australia, how was
kangaroo Island after the fires we were in Gympie when
Kangaroo Island, went up and all we could do was pray.

Meeting new people is one of the consistent joys of travel, but you need to "expose" yourself in order to develop relationships.
The fires on KI were very destructive. Apart from large areas of pristine bush, many houses were lost.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Brodie, just returned from Pemberton a fortnight ago. The Scott road track is officially shut, apparently the
bridge is down. Someone pencilled on the sign that you can still get through but we didn’t try.Skiing is prohibited, so the sign said. The Pneumonia track that runs off the
Black Point Road is open - didn’t take it as we decided to go to
Black Point which is definitely 4wd and off road CT. Very sandy in parts.
So can’t tell you what that track is like. You can get to Jasper from
Black Point but I believe it’s over grown and sandy - but personally haven’t done it. Hope that helps bit! Cheer’s Mike

scott road
bridge has been shut for years .
As for stepping stones to
lake jasper you can always take
the beach track and that is always open. the track you are talking about is seasonal and shut when it rains .
take the red line and you will be able to get from
black point to
lake jasper.
