Upgrading my rig, new or old??

I've got a ra rodeo so has a 4jh1 bit of a tractor haha.
Just the electric 4wd transfer (which I have now anyways) and the fact its common rail so id be a bit scared to do work myself on it,

Get yourself an RC Colorado, you can't go wrong there. But trying to find a good one for $14K will be difficult.
Try and get one with as low kms as possible, and one that has had an easy life.
If a used vehicle shows signs of much bush-bashing and modifications, you will be looking at early repairs.
The 4JJ1 will easily do 400,000kms without a great deal of repair being needed.

The cab /chassis model only has slightly more leaves in the rear, same front torsion bars and the rear shocks are slightly different in ability. Not that you would notice as neither the front or rear OE shocks are any good anyway right from brand new.. If buying one of any age immediately replace ALL shocks to decent ones so it rides, controls and handles and brakes. I removed ALL my shocks at 5000km from new because they just didn't do what shock absorbers are designed or used on vehicles to do.
If the shocks don't work well, it will not absorb and control in rough work and towing situations AND the ABS "Cannot work" if the shocks can't keep the tyres on the ground. My OE new shocks were appalling in performance, Bilsteins transformed all aspects of handling.

Yes the front ends were boaty from new. All ours got suspension upgrades as a matter of course except the 2wd twin cab which rode like a limo - it had a coil front end rather than the torsion bar fronts the 4wd’s got. I forgot about the ‘noddy wagon’ feel of the standard ones.

With $14K to spend as his limit, I think that cuts out a V6 Amarok.
Not everyone has $45K to $50K to spend on a used 4WD, as a used V6 Amarok runs into.
