It's a good dirt formed road about 560klms, and that's the distance between fuel too. When you get to
Chillagoe, visit Tom Prior at the BP bulk fuel depot just on the edge of town, he is a living legend with his car and truck museum.

Wanted to do that trip before my legs gave out. What bothered me was the river crossings about 190 km from
Karumba as I was going to come from the Chillago end & only had a soft roader. Couldn't carry enough fuel if I had to return to Chillago Now on the "wish I had of" list. Bill

Pretty easy drive, but there are absolutely no facilities along the way, and you are not likely to see much (if any) traffic, so don't expect any help if you get into strife, and don't go if you are uncomfortable with isolation.
No specific
camp spots, but we pulled off to the side of the road about half way between Dunbar and
Chillagoe and there is plenty of flat space.
If you don't have to go straight to
Chillagoe, the trip across the
Mitchell River and up to join the Cape developmental road is an interesting one.
