My aging Autofridge has failed permanently. An Engel 40 fits in the space but I was hoping for a larger fridge.
The specification for a number of fridges I have looked at don’t fit within the space.
Has anyone found a satisfactory replacement ?

If height isn't the problem:
For Engel 40 litre there used to be a height sleeve which fitted to top of fridge and extended the cool space a few more litres. Seeing it is a caravan that may be an option for you if Engel still makes them. Alternatively, I have seen an owner built/made sleeve with insulation and sealing at the join and the lid simply made to fit the produced sleeve, along with a catch to hold it shut.

The sleeve I saw had a formed sheet aluminium outer and lid, and an inner of acrylic of white acrylic sheet heated and bent around a former which was same size as the fridge internals. The gap between the inner and outer was filled with spray expanding foam and the expanded excess trimmed off. Seemed to work well.
Having removable sleeve suited lesser capacity or as a freezer and with it more cool volume.

These are still available, but add an extra 250mm to the height.

I have an Ironman 30L fridge that looks to be about the same footprint as an Engel 40L. Ironman also sell 40 & 50L models, same footprint but each a bit taller.

Really quiet fridges, compared to an Engel,, but a little power hungry I thought. I’m happy with the 30L model. Think they’re a re-badged Waeco?

A 60Litre Kings might fit if you have a couple of extra cm height and width over the engel. I have both these fridges and can interchange them on my vehicle's fridge slide. And the Kings appears to use less power!!

Hi Ross,

We had a Kimberley Kamper Limited, our 60 Ltr Engel fitted in the fridge slide without any problems. What model & how old is your Kimberley Kamper?

Hi Ross

Have the electronics failed? If the box is good I think just about everything excluding the electronic control can be replaced.

Compressor, thermostat, fan (if yours has one), can all be replaced.
I have a "dead" 73 litre much loved Auto fridge. I may throw some money at it and try to get it fixed one day. Our problem is living in Darwin. A $600 fix is a $1000 in Darwin and even then your never sure it will get done properly.................

There just aren't any fridges of comparable standard that I know of.

Cheers

Thanks Lyndon,
The refrigerant had leaked into the case which is sealed.
The fridge has gone to wherever dead fridges go.
Thanks
