Hello
I have a prado and am wanting to get an awning so am thinking of a 270 so it covers the cargo area
What are your thoughts on 270 vs regular?
I am thinking a fox wing what are thoughts on this vs other 270 awnings?
Silly question but do people worry about the weight on the sides? I seem to be not fussed
Thanks for your thoughts
Brent

I had a foxwing mounted on two aero bars, it was quite heavy and I was concerned about the weight of it be taken by the roof rails. Having said that it did survive a trip down the Anne Beadle without any issues.
I removed it as I could not fit the car into the garage with fitted and never put it back on due to the weight and had heard of a few failing at the hindge. Wind can be another issue, initially seems look a good idea not needing to have the supports but if a wind comes up without it being tied down your in trouble.
Have since fitted a Rhino platform and the Rhino awning, with this I can get the car into the garage without removing the awning and the lighter weight helps counter act the extra weight of the platform.

I’m not sure what you mean by no supports,
mine came with poles & guy ropes. I think the latest model has built in fold down poles.
I am very happy with
mine.

For a quick stop you supposedly don't need to use the poles, but as written if the wind comes up the awning will lift up and break the hinge.

I have Rhino Batwing for its ease and speed of deployment and mounted on HD roof bars with correct brackets. The only issue has been I have broken 5 hinge knuckles in past three trips and haven't been able to get Rhino Rack to address it. Doesn't always happen but enough to be inconvenient to say the least.
The weight doesn't seem to be an issue and I carry RTT as
well.
Good luck

Couple of other thoughts
4wdSupacentre now produces a 270 awning. Some say their kit is garbage and some say its great. I've never had any issues with their stuff.

I've got a Captains Wing from Supapeg which I bought when they were selling them at an unbelievable price (around $230 delivered from memory) . Had to buy new mounts to fit my Rhino flat rack but apart from that I've found it good from a shade perspective but not quite big enough to put my double swag under so I usually run a 2nd awning off the drivers side to put the swag under.
Setup
Packed up
Can't see this on their web site so I don't know if they're still producing it.

I use a 270.
The only negative I have discovered is that you have to consider wind strength plus manpower to put it all away if it gets windy.
They are a big sail that wants to take off so can be difficult to pack up in high wind.
Two people makes this much much easier.
I have seen a 270 that the wind blew over a car. Happened very quickly and bent a lot of fittings.
