Can anyone recommend a lake or beachside spot for camping upper half of nsw (not a tourist park)
Somewhere we can swim, or SUP and the kids can have a swim? — ?
Some where a bit secluded?

Yuraygir National Park; if there is enough of you book out Illaroo Campground, if not just 400m south of there in the general campground, just north of Wooli.
Inland camping spots aren't likely to have too much flowing water with the drought, otherwise there are numerous Farm stays on the Clarence River and Macleay River
Sanden River just north of there is magnificent but gets overcrowded. You could also look at Pebbly Beach at the southern end of Yuraygir (half way between Coffs and Grafton), but you need a 4WD.

You could take a look at some of the National Parks in that region, including Bundjalung NP (Black Rocks Camp Area) which is north of Yamba, or Yuraygir NP which has a number of campgrounds.

Noting, I'm not sure how secluded these will be during school holidays or during the warmer months. Hard to find anything secluded on a lake or beachside on Australia's east coast these days, especially given many (read most) people have "WikiCamps" on their smart phones...

Enjoy your holiday,
