Can’t help you with current road conditions, Ed, as I haven’t been through that way for some years too. However, would suggest you take the partially bitumen “long way”, meeting the
Barkly Highway about 70kms east of
Camooweal, rather than the shorter route past Undilla Station. This can be very stony, and I doubt that it has improved.

We towed our 20’ Bushtracker van from
Camooweal to
Gregory Downs in 2016. We found the road from
Camooweal to the bitumen road that runs south towards the
Barkly Highway to be in really good condition. The road became very rocky and corrugated the closer we came to Thorntonia Station where the road passes through a series of low hills. Care also needs to be taken at many of the very rocky creek crossings.
It’s about 15 years since we have taken the
Riversleigh Road but I’m sure we would have no issues with taking our van.

I was there about the 26th of April (2019) & all the roads are ok but the road from
Gregory Downs pub to the century
mine turn of is the bad section, due to the broken tar section (they should grade the tar away) & the alt route from
Lawn Hill thru to
Doomadgee is ok a few of the crossing were up then, but would have dropped by now
have a great trip
