Landcruiser 79 series sound deadening

A few years ago I installed this product in my 80 series. Easy to work with and has definitely improved the noise in the cab. Its still available on ebay.

I went nuts with spray-on body deadener in a Suzuki Sierra years ago.

I'd highly recommend it as it made the Sierra sound like a solidly built vehicle with minimal effort. I sprayed the middle of the door skins, sides and under the bonnet and it made a dramatic improvement as it eliminated the skins working like drum skins and amplifying the vibrations and rattles. I kept it away from the seams and drains so I didn't entrap water.

Down side was it stank like solvent for months.

If going again I'd use self adhesive pads as shown above, it makes a massive difference.

I had dynamat installed in all 4 doors on my VDJ79 when I had my stereo upgraded, it made a massive differance (for the better) to vehicle road noise. First thing I noticed was how much heavier the door felt when I opened it, I don't notice that anymore though...but going on the extra weight of the door alone, I'd be reluctant to do the entire floor or even the roof as I have heard of others doing.

I went with the dynamat in one vehicle and the other in my current. Both work extremely well and the only consideration I would have nowadays is the weight issue. One brand offers a lighter option which might be of interest and if you just want sound deadening keep in mind you don't need to cover the whole area as the system works with just small areas covered. If however you also want heat sealing than you will need to cover as much as possible. Have a really good read of how the product can be used, I am very happy with the result with just small patches as per their instructions.

thanks for all the inputs. No one has said it is a waste of time, effort and money, so that is a great start. The weight issue is nice to know about before I go further, which I will. We have a number of 8 - 10 hour days behind the wheel soon, might find it more pleasant. Safe travels

Hello coyote, 2 years ago I did my single cab with dynamat. Did the doors ,floors roof, behind the seats and anywhere I could stick the dynamat. All up cost about $450 and was some of the best money I've spent on the ute. I did try products from Jaycar at first however they were lighter and not as effective and not that much cheaper.
It can be slightly messy because of the sticky backing and took approximately 6 hours to remove everything , fit the product and put it all back together. Makes the ute so much quieter to drive. I purchased mine from Autopro.
