Hello,
Have a brand new prado and someone has opened their door onto the edge of my drivers door so the paint has chipped. Kills me as I am OCD and every time I open the door I see it.
What is the best way to fix? I have tried touch up paint but struggling, it’s either not filled enough or raised to much.

Once I apply touch up paint and let dry for a few days what is the best way to level out? Do I use a light sandpaper the polish? I am very scared as it’s brand new and has clear coat?

Help please

I'm a bit like you, especially in regard to nice finish on a car, or anything substantially expensive for that matter.

If you can bring yourself to accept it as is it's probably best to let it go now that you've sealed it with touch-up paint. Anything you DIY is going to make it more obvious, IMO.

The paint looks like metallic. I wouldn't dream of a professional repair for such a small mark. Such a repair would be "blended in" over a largish area of the door.
Too much risk of a slight colour mismatch, IMO, which will be even more obvious. There was a thread here recently about that.

Cheers

I've had success with touch up paint by using a cotton bud to put on a thin coat, not trying to get a full buildup in one go, but waiting for it to dry before adding another coat. Make sure the cotton bud is not fully loaded and confine the application to the chip area and not wetting the margin too much. It may well take 4 or 5 applications to build it up, but you shouldn't have to worry about overbuilding.

Really there is only one way to fix it , sell it or trade it in on a new one then wrap the new one in 'bubble wrap' and put it in an air conditioned garage and never ever move it /drive it .......its a 4x4 its supposed to get dirty /used and yes even get the 'mark' on it ......

Your door must have been open when it happened.

In the picture I can't see the damage but wondered what the two horrible looking horizontal score marks were. However they are not circled.
Because of the clarity of the shot there is no damage as far as I can see.

If damage is in that circled area it has to be caused by the bunny opening the door, ie, hitting edge on brickwork in garage.
If paranoid about such things, perhaps a U section strip of edge protector will be a good idea, or, pad the garage in soft stuff.

Yes looks more like the OP opened their door into another car not the other way around.

well for what it's worth, go to Super Dear and get your top coat (base coat mixed to specs, in spray cans, get the recommended primer, sand back with wet& dry 200 grit, mask up what u don't want painted. wet & dry sand chip, prime lightly a few coats, base coat a few coats lightly, then use the clear coat. should be fine, go lightly on each coat. take 2 days for this in warm conditions.

I've got my Prado with a COPS ARE TOPS sticker on my rear wheel casing

I also attract every lowlife scumbags who think it is hilarious to key my spare cover, run trolleys into my sides, put a large screwdriver ding underside passenger door, rub ebony paper over the cover,

The local cop said, we appreciate your sticker, my suggestion, take it off, you'll keep on attracting lowlifes by having it on there.

It is my way of saying thanks to all the coppers who pulled me over the 35 yrs of trucking and not get booked, retired on a clean licence.

And your worried over a scratch?

Why do you need to thank the cops for not booking you? As far as my observation goes, you can only get booked for doing something wrong, so if you get booked you only have yourself to blame. Conversely, if you don't get booked, you only have yourself to thank... and perhaps your Dad for raising you as a responsible road user.
