My son was out bushwalking the back of the
gold coast Binna
burra area and found this huge poop.
It has a bone in it and overall is a fairly large dump.
We are wondering what carnivore animal could have dropped something this fairly large size?
The shoe size
Poop
is around a 10 or 11.
Cheers Wayne

Hi Wayne
It your son could go back to the site and get a stool sample, you could send a sample to the museum and they could help identify what animal it was.
You might think I am crazy, but it looks like a very bid cat, E.g. cougar, as it dwarfs
dingo faeces.
Good luck
Stephen

Don't worry I don't think you're crazy. I've googled large Australian carnivores and can find nothing like it.
Big cat. Scary! And quite possible. The unbroken bone indicates something fairly large I think.
Other than that maybe a yowie!! Lol
I'll mention your sample to him.
Cheers Wayne

We have an Emu on our place and I am surprised at how big a pile they leave behind. Although the bone is a bit strange.

Hi Wayne,
Google , panther sighting in Gympie. Over the last couple of years that I've lived here there have been reports of big cat sightings, one in particular a
young lad reported being stalked whilst out . Unfortunatly no photos of any value.
Interesting find though.
Cheers
Cherry.

I think the bone has just been blown/knocked onto the pile. Which puts it back to the output of a herbivore. Honestly looks like a cow pat.

Possibly but unlikely.
It kind of looks to have an oily top on it in areas, cow poop is normally more wet than oily.

Its actually just a 'dump' done by my garbage guts mate after eating a 'vindaloo' of chicken , yes he has this habit of chewing on the thigh bones even while 'doing' the business and then dropping the bone onto the pile ... you will notice that there is no 'white paper daisy' around though , he is environmentally aware ....

Maybe the nearest town could claim it as their tourist attraction? You've heard of all the "Big"
places....the Big Banana etc. Now there's the Big Poop.

Reptiles typically have tell tale white uric acid cast with their faeces. Not apparent in picture so nothing to suggest a python. I am thinking feral pig but a bit runny. The ones I have seen are very fibrous.

I have had snakes and thought the same thing, it was the only suggestion that was close, also thought about pigs but there just doesn't seem to be the damage out there they cause.

It could be from any of the wild animals, the color is normal. There are many animals that can do that, the only way to find out in specific which animal is to take a sample and send it to the museum close to you.

Scat Man (Scott Burnett) is the bloke you need to contact - and he's an Aussie, too, so he'll probably have a pretty good idea of what that scat is from.
Scat Man
