I have to purchase a new
UHF radio and I am looking at the following units.
Oricom DTX 4200 with a ANU 1200 antenna appears to be a good unit as all cords have screw on connections or
GME TX 4610 with 4705 BTP antenna.
The last two GME have not lived up to expectations mainly due to clip in connections coming loose and the units being returned to GME
What is everyone thoughts on these two units.
Thanks.
A J

You are comparing 2 very different radios there. One is a big panel mount and the other is a microphone control unit.
I have a bias for GME but of the 2 the Oricom has a better scan speed which I prefer.

The Oricom one can also receive on 2 different channels at the same time. The GME one is Australian made.
They are totally different types of radios so it's a bit hard to compare them.

The past radio that I operated was a GME TX 3420 and the mic cord was playing up and had to be pushed constantly back into the body
The current radio is a TX 3520 which has been forwarded back to GME to have them
check out the radio
What I was looking for was comparison fo ORICOM and GME UHF radios
Thanks

Thanks for clarifying but that was not what you asked for in your original post.
You said:

Hence the comments that others have made that these are different formats.

Have had a couple of GME's never had a problem with the RJ45 connector. In fact I have used similar in an overhead console for mic connections as I like them setup that way.

The GME is a better quality radio, and the GME is a mid to low range radio in the quality stakes. So Oricom in low to lower. I would go the GME out of those 2.
Another consideration in the same bracket is the Uniden. I have a Uniden, its tests out the same as the GME, my Uniden antennas
test better than the GMEs, but if I was to choose between Uniden and GME, I would pick GME. I picked Uniden when I got
mine as GME didnt have a model with a speaker in the mic.

Icom if you want quality. Not a typo.

I agree, I have an Icom installed as
well as a Uniden. But for a lot of people the Icom is expensive, and they are not the easiest to use for the layman. (Scan set up etc)

Yes, but they go when you need them to. GME have stolen enough of my spare time over the years. Never again. We’ve also had a great run with Uniden hand held submersible UHF’s which live in kayak life vests in salt water. Credit where it is due.

Hi AJ
I use GME for both portable requirements and in-vehicle communications and have no experience with Oricom.
But in considering one product over another I think you also need to consider the antenna you are using; is it right for the applications you will be applying it to and where it is installed as this will influence the way any radio will perform.
But on choice,
mine is a preference for GME because I'm familiar with it, but I suspect in this price range I doubt one will represent any significant difference in value versus the alternative, all things being considered.
Good luck out there.
Cheers, Baz - The Landy

Have had 40ch and now 80ch GMEs, faultless. Installed them myself, simple job. Never had problems with connections but I don't ever yank on or overextend the mic cord. Generally it used to be Icom > GME > Uniden/Oricom - in quality and price
