Hi all,
We were heading to northern S.A. but with the floods around there I'd like to see what fellow forumlites think is worth a look at in the southern end of the state.

We will have a few days at Clare & the Barossa vineyards but want to see other areas further south.

All suggestions appreciated, we are travelling in 4X4's and have camper trailers etc.
Regards,
Lloyd M

In southern SA there is so much! You cant beat the views of Encounter Bay area, see our Trek Notes for Fleurieu and Coorong and also Yorke in the Innes National Park.

Lloyd, there is so much to see so in southern SA.
Obviously there is the Gammon and Flinders Ranges before you get down to the Clare (mid north) and then further south the Barossa.

You could spend anything from 4 or 5 days to a couple of weeks fully checking out the Gammon / Flinders region.

Depending on travel plans afterwards, the coastline is well worth looking at of course.

The Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas at spectacular.

The the Fleurieu Peninsula south of Adelaide is a nice drive with Deep Ck Nat Pk camping.
Kangaroo Is might also be something to consider, though it is costly in all aspects.

The Fleurieu Peninsula takes you around to Goolwa at the Murray mouth, which you can drive to, as well as camp on the main beach if weather / tides are favourable.

Then there is the Coorong down to the epic Limestone Coast region, with famous Beachport / Robe drive and others tracks right through not so we’ll known, but totally breathtaking scenery.
The beaches down there can be dodgy sometimes so pays to consider taking inland tracks at times if solo, towing, etc.

I’m sure others will have more suggestions.

Enjoy you will find some great alternatives to the desert.

Yes the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula, Jussieu Peninsular south of Port Lincoln and Coffin Bay are must-sees, IMO.

All the treks suggested here are available as self-guided itineraries in our Trek Note section on the website here - SA Trek Notes and if you have our app ExplorOz Traveller you can load up the route files and get guided navigation along the route (or edit it to suit your needs).

Hi Lloyd

How much time do you ?

Flinders Ranges is an absolute must see and do.

Fantastic places to stay and if you are into real four wheel drive tracks, there are some great track to visit that are up there with the best.

Yorke Peninsula is fantastic, from great sandy beaches to the rugged cliffs.

When in Clare, Mintaro is a must visit, with Mardindale Hall made famous from the film “Picnic at Hanging Rock". You can spend lots of time in Burra and the Heritage Trail is well worth it.

You then have the Riverland and Murraylands areas, the Southern Vales, the Coorong, the Southeast and all areas in between.

Best of luck

Cheers
