We are heading to Bourke in early September and would like to take a detour home through Louth and Cobar.
We tow a 3.2t off-road van. Can anyone please tell me what is the road like?

We came down from Bourke to Louth on about the 10th last month towing a 2.3t off road van
There was two vans both off road and we had no problems at all.
Road was in good condition - watch out for the wildlife
Do not know what rain they got there last week - if any

Hi AJ,

Thank you for the feedback. Did you stay on the river near the pub?
I am also keen to do part of the Dowling Track from Thargomindah to Bourke. You haven't been up that way have you?

Don't know about any rain last week but it was shocking down here in Melbourne so maybe they got some.

We left Bourke about 9.30 am and after having a look around Louth left and travelled to Tilpa Weir to camp.
No I have not travelled the Dowling track for the past 25 years

Drove down to Louth from Bourke sat week ago towing a 2.5 ton van stayed at trilby station they had 4 mill of rain Monday night roads were closed we waited till Wednesday and went to Cobar about 70 ks dirt it was fine . We weregoing to go to willcania on the dirt but more rain was forecast so took the safer option.

The north bank road (off the Wanaaring rd) is pretty choppy for the first 20 odd kms of dirt then sorts itself out depending on which side of the river you wanted to drive. Plenty of nice station stays along the river.
