Can anyone recommend a 12 volt tv , our teac has died for some reason, power light is not coming on. Biggest one that kogan has is only 16inch and not big enough. Only other one I can find apart from expensive units from caravan shops is a teac 24 inch the same as the one we had.
cheers Graeme.

Have a look at Harvey Normans or The Good Guys. Not certain which if any are 12V but a simple gander at the back of the set will tell you if it has a 240V to 12V power supply.
Even if they don,t a 24" will only draw around 60-70W and can be run of a small ciggy inverter at 300W.
I am using a Conia in our van which runs of the 12V supply.

We bought a 12V 22" Hitachi with inbuilt DVD....excellent TV all round. I forget where, but it was one of the mainstream electrical retailers. Its way lighter too than the previous, smaller TV that we first had...and cost a lot less too. We put it up on the fridge when camped...it travels on the bed.

+1 for Kogan
We've been using the TV/DVD player for years with no issue.
Only annoyance is removing the base to pack it away each time but that applies to any manufacturer.

+2 for kogan. 24 inch LED TV with or without built-in DVD player, excellent picture with low power consumption. I chose without as this model has 3 HDMI inputs which can be used for Sat TV, movie library and of course DVD player. Both models have recording function via USB.
Cheers

Most the small LCD TV's have piddly little speakers that face the rear of the TV so the only way to get decent sound is to use external speakers
like these from Jaycar

many of the flat screen televisions have small speakers facing down or to the rear ........ the design asumption is that they will be mounted close to a wall or on a flat surface close to a wall.
they do sound better mounted this way.
Another trick is if mounting on a bracket ....... make up an aluminium plate that simulates a wall surface to abot4 to 6 inches below the TV and bolt that on to the visa mount between the TV and the bracket
of course the other solution is to use external speakers or a a sound bar.

Be careful not to get the polarity wrong. That's how I blew the circuit board in
mine.

You might be surprised at how cheap an electronics guru can fix it, there are plenty of those little shops around if you look.

Cheers for the replies, kogan only have a 16 inch at the moment which is to small. Rang them and they are looking to get perhaps a 28 or 32 inch as they have that many inquiries.
cheers Graeme.

I have found most modern tv sets can run off 12volt using an adapter with various interchangable plugs available a
places like jaycar The tv I have is 19volt runs happily off the adaptor I also use it to charge the laptop from 12 volt

I thought the same until I started looking into replacing the van TV recently. A lot of the latest smaller LCD TV's are now only 240VAC but the power rating is very small (60-75W) so will run from a small inverter that plugs into a ciggy socket.
But agree with you that the so called 12VDC universal laptop power supplies will do the job.

a few years ago many of the smaller TVs from a variety of suppliers where 12 volt native with an external power supply.
It was a case that the one TV could be manufactured for world wide demand and only the power supply need to be made for the particular country.
same with many of the early LCD computer monitors.
but now it is far more usual for these TVs to have built in universal power supplies that will run of anywhere between 110 and 250 volts

Have you had a look at the
Majestic 12 volt Marine TV range?
Come in size from 15.6" to 32" and have built in DVD players.
They are true 12 volt - no need for an adapter. Straight cig lighter.
Low power consumption.
Built for marine /outback environment.
We have a 19" in our camper trailer and it has been fantastic. It has handled all the corrugations, extreme heat and cold.
Click on the link above to take a look.
Cheers
Anthony

See Talawan's Post below - the problem with Kogan's website is if you search for 12v TV the model does not come up - looks as if you need to look at the specs of every TV on their site to see if the tv is 12v compatible.

I have been looking at the Kogan site in recent days for a smallish TV .... and yes there is a 12 volt 20ish inch TV.
one of the problems with the kogan site is ..the search engine is not particularly consistent ....... you don't need to look at every TV.... but you do need to look at the specs of about 10 smaller TVs
The other thing about Kogan is that the site reflects what they have in stock or comming into stock ....... if they don't currently have stock of something or have stock on the way, the item may be absent from the site ...... but may reapear later.
cheers
