Hi all getting ready to travell up to the
Kimberley in June, followed by travelling down to
Port Hedland,
Marble Bar,
Rudall River NP, then
home via
Canning Stock Route up to Kunawarit for fuel before turning south onto the
Gary Hwy, Old Gunbarrel Hwy and onto
Warburton ,once there its an easy drive on the Great Central Rd to the Stuart before heading south to
Sydney
The question is can I tow a 4WD camper trailer along the canning between
well 22 and
well 32 (Kunawaritji) or will I find the sand hills to large in that area ? (2016 Hilux with a
Kimberley Kamper in tow, at max GVM)
My second plan would be to take the Talawana Track from Rudell River NP to
Windy Corner on the Gary Highway and turn south heading to
Warburton.?
Any help on the tracks ect in the area would be a great help.
I will be in a group of 6 vehicles, 2 towing trailers
Thanks
Dennis

You'll be fine on either option Dennis. Corrugations on the canning will be horrendous particularly as you get closer to Kurnawarritji. Sandhills shouldn't be too much of an issues for you on that stretch.
The Talawana/Gary option is a great run. The only sandy stuff is within 10 km of the Canning/Talawana turnoff and it's hardly a challenge. I love this run. It's one of my favourite tracks. Don't forget to drop into
Midway well. The run south along the Gary is straight forward with changing landscapes and quite a few things to see. The drive into
Mulgan Rockhole and
Nipper Pinnacle is
well worth the detour.
Lake Cohen is another great stop particularly if there is water present. Camping at
Charlies Knob is also good.
Another alternative is to turn right from the Talawana and head south down the
Eagle Hwy to the Gunbarrel. It's a bit rough crossing the Connolly Basin but a great drive through the
Woolnough Hills, The
Warri site, and Gibson
Nature reserve.
Food for thought.
Safe Travels, Mick

Thanks Mick,
There are so many great tracks out there and not enough time to see then all.
Do you have any experience on the Skull Springs Road, just thinking about taking the long way round from Mable Bar to Running Water ,and
Carawine Gorge before heading to Rudell River NP.
Thanks Dennis

Hi Dennis, did that track last year and will be doing it again this year in the reverse direction. The track going north from
Running Waters through the
Upper Carawine Gorge (
great camp spot) to the
Two Sisters is really nice drive.

I think Chris has covered it Dennis. It's been 6 years since I was on the Skull Springs Road although it was a good quality dirt road that was
well maintained at that point.
