Has anyone used a Thuraya Sat Sleeve on the Canning or in the deserts? How did you find the coverage, and is the data speed adequate to read emails?

Have you checked out the cost of data with it? With Optus it looks like data is $2.50/MB or $2500/GB... which is heaps cheaper than Pivotel who are $10/MB for $50/month plans (or $10k/GB).

We've got a Thuraya phone and it works well as long as it has a clear line of sight to the satellite - out in the desert that shouldn't be a problem! Coverage won't be a problem. No idea about data speeds but you wouldn't want to download much at those rates anyway.
