Bruce. I strongly recommend you join a Patrol forum. I'm a member of Patrol4x4 and it has a ton of information about your question. Suggest you do a search first and if you don't find what you're after, post your original question (but point out you're a newby). I myself have some knowledge of the dilemma but you best hear it from the other guys who have been through this problem. Good luck, Deejay.

Strongly Agree you should join the Patrol forum, but, I had a 2006 TD4.2 burst a heater hose and seize before I figured out what was wrong, cost $20k for a new long motor and new turbo fitted and I already had all the ancillary bits available so I reckon no change out of $25k unless you do all the work yourself.
I believe there is a Yank V8 Diesel that is a common swap for a 3.0L grenade and will be about the same or less to do and more power/torque at the end of the project..

Happy to provide more info on my experience.

Bruce,I strongly advise the Patrol forum, I used to have a td 4.2td,and if you have look at thread 134581 BLOWN TURBO, mine was a water pump which seized my motor, and unfortunately,I had been quoted anywhere between $15,000- $20,000 and that`s money I didn`t have....sold the shell $ 3,000 the very best I could get, change your water pump too, a company make one just for Patrols, because of this problem $ 500 but well worth it I reckon, they have a website, good luck.
Ian.

Another not so common replacement is a Toyota HDFTE motor. This is the factory turbo intercooled motor.
