Old Gunbarrel Hwy, Gunbarrel Highway, CSR,
Has anyone driven the old gunbarrel recently and have a condition report ?

Going from Yulara , docker river, surveyor generals corner, giles, old gunbarrel, gunbarrel, Carnegie, a bit of CSR (wells 9-5) then through to good camp rock hole and private track to Kumarina Roadhouse and Newman.

All track reports appreciated esp time to do old Gunbarrel from Giles....

Thanks,
Jules

Did part of the Old Gunbarrel last year and its not maintained and I would just call it very slow. Nothing overly difficult but you are very remote so very slow and that way you don't break anything. A lot of work must have gone into planning and organising that trip so allow plenty of time to see, and savour it all.

Thanks Chris, What part did you do and how long did it take (realise time is relative but we don't want to break the ultimate!).

We can't wait to be back in the remote. J

Break an Ultimate? I have never heard of anyone doing that.

We were a big group (8 vehicles) and we only did a little bit of it and spent a lot of time stoped and looking around so our time won't mean much.

Suggest you go here for the detail you are looking for.

In a newsletter Ngaanyatjarra Council News - March 2017 at http://us12.campaign-archive1.com/?u=33d6ee31ff817956c59f90cfc&id=bd0ad46d0b&e=d5a780c533

It says
'The Gunbarrel Highway is the most severely damaged from Lake Christopher to Warakurna with extensive wash away and very soft sandy sections.'

Did the Gunbarrel from Warburton to Warakurna June last year. From the GCR to Mippiltjarra Junction the road/track was fantastic. From there to the Lake Christopher turnoff the track was still pretty good but deteriorating with a few patches of corrugations, narrow bits and wash-outs. All easy going. From Lake Christopher you need to be on the look out for wash-aways as some where hidden by overgrown vegetation. The old mantra remains drive to the conditions and all is sweet.

Cheers

Dunc.
