I'm planning a trip that includes travelling the Old
Gunbarrel Highway (
Warburton to
Warakurna Roadhouse) and interested to know how many days it has taken people to travel the Old
Gunbarrel Highway?
Thanks in advance.

We did it in 2006. We planned to do it in 2 days, but it started raining overnight in
Warburton, and by the time we reached the Rawlinsons, we were driving through water, and we had no real alternative other than to drive on to Warakurna, where we arrived that night. The GCR was closed by this time, and 2" rain had fallen during the day.
We documented it on video fortunately.
It was an interesting trip.
cheers
Laurie

Thanks for the replies Dunc & Laurie. I'll plan on 2 days. Hopefully it won't rain too much! Been out that way before when it has rained and certainly makes for an interesting trip.

We did a section between the Gary Highway and the
Heather Highway and it was fantastic,
nice camp spot at
Camp Beadell from memory it has a very high star rating. There were spots where rain had fallen and made for some interesting moments but was great,
I personally wouldn't plan to stay at
Warburton again, but it was nice to have our weekly shower after being in the Desert for a while.
