Haven't been up that way for 11 years. Ended up at Mt Dare but can't remember. Can we fill our water containers for the Simpson Desert and is it good drinking water.

Gidday

I must have drunk the water when I was there in 2015.

Remember more that the bar was well stocked with Coopers beer. Probably not allowed to mention that after the hoo-ha this week.

Cheers

Yes Nick, I agree, but that's why I am asking, to avoid the gut ache. Just trying to work out the last place with decent water. It's a bit too far to lug all of it from Melbourne.
Cheers,
Christine

It is a very personal decision on what water you use. My loverly wife reckons I could drink water out of a cattle trough and I have ( then again I knew many of the cattle personally). She on the other hand suffers badly from some of the different water sources.
Bore water and the locals will have no problems, BUT! There is no guarantee you won't have an adverse reaction or be fine.
One way of doing it is to buy enough drinking water in 10l containers and then use bore water for everything else. You can boil bore water but you can't get rid of the chemicals that may upset some.

I expect they have rainwater and that may or may not be in short supply. Best to phone Mt Dare before you leave.
If you are coming up from the south, fill your tanks at Port Augusta and you can top up with 10L casks of spring water at Oodnadatta.

I topped our main tank up there the day we left, to cross the Madigan, last June. Might have tasted it but don't remember.

We had a 20L jerrycan of drinking water as well, plus other containers of the same, so didn't have to risk drinking it.

Imodium is handy to carry if your guts are a bit fragile.

Can't remember most of it.

Good drinking water is available at 3 O'Clock Creek campground 10 kms West of Dalhousie Springs.

While there have a look in the creek gully- there are several very large red mulga or miniritchie trees there.

Mt Dare has taps all around the camp ground. If the water was crook they would usually have signs saying 'not for drinking' or 'Bore water'. but no signs exist there, I and my family have drunk from there many times ....no issues. But if your wife has a shonky gut take precautions. Ring Mt Dare they are very friendly people....Cheers
