Goldlink, we tried to get to Kingfisher mid last year but unfortunately as per the link it is now closed due to new ownership. As per the notice the Hells Grage Road House is a good stopover.

Funny that there is no mention of being closed on their own website, all links are working including prices....

KINGFISHER CAMP

I know the person who designed and placed the kingfisher webpage and he has informed me that the place has closed to the public for now and he has not been able to remove or modify their webpage. It was done many years ago.

Probably another camp that has been abused!
I know when we there, there was a fisherman with a 5kva builders type generator in a frame running all day in the tray of his vehicle powering what looked like a domestic chest freezer. Of course he wasn't in the generator area either.

It would be a long day trip...there 14 double gates to open and close ( just ask my missus) and the fishing is not very good either unless you have a boat and even then when we were there the locals were not getting much if anything, it is hard to get to the waters edge in places on foot. A lot of effort to get there for not much.There are some good walks , and a bit of scenery..thats about it. We were there about 3 yrs ago and the people at the property were very friendly and helpful.

Two sisters of the family that previously owned Bowthorn set up the camp and ran it with campground managers for the season. The sisters were happy to interact with campers and deal with problems the managers needed help with. The cattle operation was run by a brother. Several years ago, Bowthorn was sold. The new owners were clearly focussed on the cattle operation, but I think they kept the camp open for a couple of seasons, maybe to see if it was worthwhile. Clearly, the return was not judged worth the hassle of tourists, and issues involved with setting it up again each year after the Wet.
Pity, because the campground was a lovely place, beside the Nicholson River. There was good canoeing, boating, walking and a couple of great drives on the place.

There's a big waterhole further down Lawn Hill Ck, called Blue Hole, or Bluewater Hole on the map. We went there once, about 30 years ago, and think it's on the road to Doomadgee? Might be a barra in there, but there's also large lizards there too!

Not sure if you'd have to ask permission to fish or not, from Lawn Hill Station?
