I have to head just north of
Canberra tomorrow, leaving from near Traralgon.
I would like to avoid
Melbourne & was wondering what the road is like heading north from Cann River.

Cann River to
Bombala and beyond to your destination is a fast trip all bitumen highway these days.
I can remember though when it was a very rough gravel track, not for the faint hearted.
Just keep an eye out for log trucks though, they are long enough to require a fair bit of road.

I drove this in reverse...so from Cann river to
Canberra a week ago and it's an easy, steady climb up over the Great Dividing Range from Cann River. Road is for the most part wide and in good shape. I was driving a 23ft motorhome.

Heather

Yes Baz...not something I ever thought I would own and drive but apart from the front wheel drive, low clearance and lack of 4WD...its very comfortable... and economical on fuel too. It's enabled me to continue getting out and enjoying and exploring which is what I wanted.
Havent given up on owning another ute and caravan one day when I'm more confident but for the moment it's a good choice!
Regards,
Heather

Heather
As Baz has said it's good to see that you are still travalling.

Shaker,
It was just that I was thinking the road heading north from
Canberra (Sutton Rd to
Gunning) is far worse than anything you will see from Cann River to
Canberra!
Barton Hwy to Murrumbateman is very busy but in good condition although many argue that it should be dual lane and it's hard to argue against that assertion.

I went through Sutton to avoid the traffic, road wasn't too bad.
