Yes an interesting addition to the dual cab line up - shame we do not know what the final version will look like as all that has been so far are the concept cars and artists projections and the final versions are often a lot different.

It's a shared platform with a Nissan Navara but a different motor.

It should get good fuel economy then, going downhill all the way to Nissan production level.
Perhaps MB was impressed with the D40 series.

So a turbo V6 diesel or a diesel 4-cylinder for the base model. In order to meet Euro5 emission standards, they'll be AdBlue diesel engines, so remember to pack a container of AdBlue when you go offroad. If they run out of AdBlue, the ECU puts the engine in limp-home mode!!!

I'm sure it will be very capable, hopefully heavy duty to give some competition to that end of the market. I think servicing and parts pricing (and availability) will be a deal breaker for some.

Regardless of whether it is capable off road or not there is a ready market for blinged up utes, many of which barely see a wet road much less a dirt one.

Imagine being the first mum with one of these on the school run.

Manufacturers like MB don't pull the wrong rein very often.

Cheers

It looks the part, very nice, but when they start sourcing engines and what ever else from other manufactures, it becomes a Bitza !...and down the track it shows up with high depreciation, ...Colorado comes to mind.

You have to hand it to Toyota, Across the board they will always take some beating

Cheers Axle.

Toyota were good but they have just been left behind.

When they fail, it's injectors and motors.

Not worth the money to buy and not worth the risk to own.

I'm looking forward to more choice in the modern tow vehicle market.

People keep saying that about Toyotas, but people still keep buying them ??

The Hilux on paper isn't on par with the opposition, but it is the best selling ute in Australia !

Go figure ??

Gronk

Toyota sells Hiluxes by the boatload to mining companies. I suspect at a price that is nowhere near RRP.

Good luck to them.

Rocco price to the mining companies is irrelevant as all the manufacturers would offer the same style of discount structure to the mines if they could get a deal going so they are not buying on price

Toyota must offer the best all round value for the bean counters to keep buying them

Just an over priced Nissan isn't it? Rear coils in a Ute?
And MB's trading on its past rep for quality now days, like other Kraut brands.
Have to be a fool buying one, thinking you are getting something superior.

What is wrong with coils on a ute - they work better than old cart springs.

Ute’s with coils only makes sense if you don't carry much. Simple physics. Leaf springs have two anchor points to the chassis spread apart. Coils basically only have one anchor point. The Navara's with coils are breaking their chassis regularly. The greater the weight behind the back springs anchor points the greater the for/aft pitching of the vehicle on undulating tracks. The back anchor point of a leaf spring is much further back than a coil. I use to have a 100 series Toyota with beefed up coils. I now have a D-Max with a tailored leaf suspension which when loaded weighs the same as the 100 series. Off road the D-Max is far superior.
As for Mercedes Benz, their after sales service is abysmal. For a supposedly premium product at a premium price, other Benz owners are finding if you have any problems they don't want to know you. One Benz owner had the engine mounts fail at about 40,000 kms and they would not replacement them under warranty.
I never had any issue with Toyota and Isuzu have been exceptional so far. (33,000k's). In the last customer satisfaction survey Isuzu were second behind Lexus.
What other people think of me is none of my business.
Do unto others what you would have them do unto you.

Landrover Utes have had coils since about 1981 - no issue. No there is no real issue going to coils if designed correctly - the Jappers continue with cart springs because it is cheap and easy.

The MB G300 ute is about $120k, this X-Class looks a bit more soccer mum and expensive than the G300 so price point will be interesting and probably closer to imported yank truck money. I'm sure it'd be handy in the rough stuff but I don't think I'd be dragging one along the CSR if it was my own.

He we are bagging it before the production model has been seen - until it has been tested no one knows what the actual product will actually look like or how it will perform - we don't even know what the price will be.

A good source of chassis to survey is the UK
Nissans are breaking all records ( For chassis failures, just google it ... ok )

The last MC 's that were tested in Aus failed in the suspension stakes , so I certainly won't be expecting anything better from that area.

Did anyone else notice it has Bias ply tyres haha. Where do they get those concept artists?
It would be nice to think a production model MIGHT make it into life with some decent sized rubber for those of us who actually rely on the ability of a tyre to air down and still carry weight - but I won't hold my breath. I think the Jeep unlimited got 33's - that's a good start, but they were on monstrous rims which kind of defeats most of the purpose.

Sorry, correction, I assumed they were Simex JT's, but they are a Silverstone knock off which look to be a radial tyre.

What I like about it is the tailgate that can be also used as a max track.
