Hi folks,
We're plotting our Canning/Anne Beadell trip for this year and have run into one of the
Woomera exclusion periods affecting our preferred travel dates.
It looks like we can still get down to
Maralinga from either Volkes
Hill or Emu (the closure is just the narrow
Woomera Amber Zone 2 corridor which does not include Emu).
Has anyone tried an alternative route across to the Stuart Hwy (eg from
Anne's Corner to the north of
Woomera, hopefully without going all the way up to the Gunbarrel)?
Or has anyone travelled east along the transcontinental railway access road from
Maralinga to Glendambo - does "prohibited access" mean what it says, or just not a good idea??
Any advice appreciated, before we start shifting dates.
Thanks

The railways take their "prohibited access" very seriously and it can cost you a lot of money if you do use their access roads. Train drivers are required to report any vehicles they see.

Sort of defeats the purpose of a

Maybe so Peter, but gets a response to an OP without vicious criticism?
No, I did NOT make "private contact". lol

Certainly doesn't defeat the purpose Peter - we've made some good friends among like-minded travellers, introduced via the
forum and then built on shared experience and interests.

Secretive answers don't really help people following a thread.

I apologise to those who feel that they 'missed out' by me sending a private message to the OP.
To be honest I wanted to convey some important private information to someone I know and trust. I don't want that information broadcast to a general audience because of privacy, the content, and general criticism that seems to appear on this
forum on some comments.
It seems that the level of criticism has even extended to using the EO
tools such as messaging. Perhaps EO should ban messaging to keep some happy. Is that really what is being suggested here?
I never intended for my information to help onlookers, it was very specific for the OP.
Once again, sorry if you feel excluded. It was a private matter in a private message. I seriously can't see anything wrong with that.
If people genuinely feel left out or isolated please understand I am not targeting anyone and it is not about you, please refer to
this help page or call Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636

Hi Mike,
Thanks for that - we have previously done the
Maralinga tour via Oldea, and I recommend it very highly. Robin is a fantastic tour guide, and the trip we took was fascinating - enjoy!!
This time we are looking to travel the Anne Beadell from WA to
Coober Pedy, and with some of the
Woomera site off-limits for a period that will mean a detour either north or south for that section.
Cheers
