I took a bit of a turn during the last few K's into Kunawaratjii and the bloke at the garage got us the okay to drive on the Telfor Mine road and the mine also said that they would fly me to Perth if needed. I rang my doctor on our sat phone (good choice). Luckily while we were talking to him my pacemaker settled down. He said just go to Port Headland and he would make arrangements for me to see someone.

Like I said great -- help. Typical country folk - can't do enough for you. I was a little worried for a while but all turned out okay. We also called the mine on the CB on the way past and thanked them.

No wonder why we travel in these so hospitable place yet they desert is so often so deadly!!!!! It's the people, serenity, honesty and peace that's for the sharing. You won't get that in Bali etc.

They will look after you mate. Say Hi for us. A 100 series, one grand daughter daughter and a "T" van in tow. They may remember us. I was quite worried and a little eager to get back to populated areas. It helps to have an ex nurse with me though. We sent a thnk you letter by snail mail. I didn't get a response so I hope that they got it okay.

Thanks Terry, that makes me feel better knowing it can be done, I don't have gas but with 270 liters of unleaded it shouldn't be a problem. It will be interesting what has changed after 16 years and what impact travelers have had over that time.

I did it in a 4.8lt petrol patrol which is just as thirsty.

We set out with 244lt of fuel and averaged 18.3lt /100km which is not much more than our long term touring average of 16.5

We got 69lt at the fuel dump just for the experience of doing it.

Thanks Robin, can you get less than 200 liters now? When we did it in 2000 you could only get the 44 gallon drums. Most vehicles could not fit that much in, and certainly not by well 23.

No, I shared with a petrol 80 series who was happy to have the rest.

Interestingly the fuel dump fuel was cheaper than well 23 and easier despite the light rain and freezing temperature at the time.
At well 23 they didn't have proper setup for petrol and we ended up hand pumping from a 44 anyway.

Thanks Robin, it's probably the same hand pump supplied by Capricorn Roadhouse we used in 2000.
