Can anyone help with "first hand" experiences with the long term reliability issues regarding Diesel 2.8L Pajero's.

Yeah, I've had a manual NL Pajero for just on 3 years (bought new). Had no problems except a sticking 5th gear which was bloody annoying and fixed under warranty. Original equipment tyres - Yokahama - have just been replaced for the first time after 79,000k.

Tony, thanks for replying. I have heard several "rumours" from people within the used car trade, that diesels whose manufacturers names begin with "M", (Mazda and Mitsubishi), should be avoided at all costs!? It is
well known that the earlier turbo Mitsubishi engines were not too flash long term, but I'm interested to here from someone who has run up 2-300k in a more recent model. Thanks again, Revs.

I have just clocked up 300,000 in an NG 2.5 TD. I know its not the motor your asking about but yours should be a better donk being newer etc. I have owned it for about 140,000 and have changed oil and filter every 5000. My biggest expenses have been overhauling the injector pump and injectors. I have done a fair bit of off road touring including
Simpson desert etc and have overall been really happy. Hope this helps.

Dave, Yep that's the sort of info I was after. I'm convinced that most reported engine problems are due to either abuse or lack of maintainence (one and the same). I'm after a "midsized" 4wd after being out of the "scene" for some years, my prefference is for a Diesel powered vehicle, and the Diesel Pajero's appear to be rather
well priced. Travel long and safely. Revs.

We have owned a GXL 96 turbo diesel since new and done 285,000klm. The only probelms have occured in the last 6 month - new clutch and a/c. Its starting to blow a bit of smoke and I'm about to trade it in on the new DiD series. I have had an offer of $12K trade and purchased it for $40K.
Good luck
Terry
