I give up , it used to work fine , but now as a logged in member I cannot figure this out.
(using Win 7 IE9)

To Add Photo's into a reply I first select "Images and Files" and the Embed image menu comes
up and you select "Add Photo's & Files" which allows you to select a photo from your PC.

You then wait a few seconds for your image to upload and then menu "Gallery Item 1/1" appears.

You then type in a mandatory field "Title" then select "Save"

The message "saving" appears briefly and then you are tranferred back to "Reply to thread ".

Normally at this point the photo's index number would appear however the "Reply to Thread "
window now remains blank for me !

I'm wondering Robin if perhaps you haven't put your cursor into the reply box first before hitting the Images button??

I will check that with this follow up Michelle - it has to be something I'm doing or use as it does work for others as per above.

No it wasn't that - it certainly goes thru the motion of image saving but that index nuber never appears like it used to.

Thanks though .

Ok looks like this will work.

To make it work I changed to google chrome and went to Exploroz which required me to login and this caused some changes.

Assumption - I was not logged in properly an hour ago.

How do I know I was logged in before ? I clicked on the forum member and profile buttons and they said I was me !

Either that test has a loophole or IE9 was the problem - after this post I will post a follow up using IE9 with a photo.

Ok It did not work with IE9 but now I know more.

I noticed that when I clicked on this post to followup , with IE9 the followup box was completely blank.

However when I did this with google chrome the followup window contains the greyed out text "Enter the body of your followup"

Clearly the browsers react differently.

What is interesting is that I have done other followups using IE9 and they work.

Conclusion is that the issue allows text thru in IE9 but would not embed an image.

So I have a work around for now - thanks to all.

Brilliant analysis & process, good one Robin. I will alert David to read this when he gets a chance and I'm sure he will know what to do.

Hello

May not help, but why are you using IE V9 when it is now up to V11? Updating to the latest version of anything doesn't not always result in a positive outcome but using most recent version of the browser in question may well solve your problem (if you wish to persist with IE). David may be trying to solve a problem that doesn't really need solving.

Cheers
Greg

Robin,

IE 9 will certainly have a problem with the PlaceHolder text - this is the Type your Reply grey text. It was just not supported. I did make a few sweeping functional updates across the system that will have reduced support in older browsers and IE 6,7 & 8 will basically not work well at all. IE 9 should work OK and the image upload tools were not really changed going to the new layout however the bottom end jQuery library was updated which may have caused a problem. I know IE: 10 + work perfectly but I am a little curious about why IE9 plays up. The function that would seem not to work is the bit where it pastes the GI tag into the text box - Weird.

Did the Saving Save - your image was saved?

Hi David

I thought IE9 was still supported but either way don't go to any trouble on my behalf.

I note that IE is still the 3rd most popular browser at about 8% however only 1% are using IE9

P.S. It did say "Your Image has been saved " however , it did not count up the bytes as it was loading.

Robin,

Yes that would be expected the byte count is a HTML 5 function and came in to IE10 (Microsoft was not with the standards until the last year or so). But it is strange that the sending of the text to the box did not work - it is really a simple piece of code and I did not change it from the previous versions. I will double check the script to be sure.

Thanks and have a good one.

Hi Robin, interesting you mention the rank popularity of IE. ExplorOz Google Analytics show 35% use Chrome and 35% use Safari. 15% use IE (with 80% using V11 and only 8% on V9). Firefox is lagging at only 8%, and 2% use the Android browser. Whatever browser people choose, there is a setting in all browsers to automatically update to latest version - this is very important.

I notice that all pictures above are posted in a standard minimum size frame. I posted several .JPG files in the thread Caravan weights, the heights of these was less than 1/6th of the frame size.

Is there any way we can reduce the frame size to fit the graphics/picture?

Is there any way forum software can be modified to produce the frame size to fit the graphic?
