Travel times on the CSR - South to North run

Afternoon all if possible can somebody please give me an indicative travel time in days along the CSR from:
a) Well 5 to Well 33 & Kunawaritji. (We may or may not hire a camper trailer), and
b) Wiluna to Karawaritji (if we decide not to hire a CT).

Also how bad are the corrugations/moguls on the South side of the dunes, not that that bothers me but it will give me an idea on travel speed and fuel consumption.

Travel time during this portion will be during the 2016 WA July school holidays.

Reason for the enquiry is that I'm trying to work out options for a travel itinerary that will see us arriving in Kiwirrkurra on the Gary Junction Road 16 days after leaving Perth.

Thanks

Dunc

Thanks Pete based on your figures 6 days from Wiluna to Kunawaritji and allowing for side trips. So I've so far got plenty of time up my sleeve.

Cheers

Do you want to drive it or see and experience it?

John I'm not doing the entire route so given my available time I'd say I'd be getting a fair bit of the experience.

Cheers

Hi Duncan

By the wording of your post I gather you do not have a lot of spare time. Even I understand that.

We planned on 15 days Billiluna south to Wiluna. We too had commitments to meet. I have to be home every four weeks for medicals.

Shame about it being a long way from here but we saw all that we wanted to see. A week to get to Bililuna. A week to get home. And two weeks for the CSR. This is one hell of big country. Look out for the idiots doing it in SUVs like pathfinders and x-trails. And about 1/4 even use radios. Sand flags - hmmm.

Missed one of your questions. We hired a T-van and it made no difference to our timing. We drive a 4.2TD so there is power to spare.

Thanks Phil, yes we have a timeframe and that could extend out from 16 days to 30 days depending on schedules at the other end so I'm working on worst case scenarios.

After posting I looked at the EO Trek Notes and the time frames given between wells is very short and based on those times the total travel time is extremely short, and that's not my aim.

Dunc I would not read too much into those exploroz times , we did it from North to South this year and we were not even close to some of the times yet others we were, our probable driving days were about 13 for the total Canning Stoke route, we completed the whole route in 21 days.

We did it in 2012 and to be honest were thinking that it was going to be very hard getting over the dunes, so pushed good days starting at 8am finishing at 3pm, without being silly we did it in 10 days with a lay day at Durba Springs, but would take more time if we ever did it again. Biggest thing is to let your tyres down to about 22psi and engage 4wd High and the dunes won't be a problem.

There were corrogations heading into Kuniwarritja but noticed corrogations between Georgia Bore & Well 24 last year when we did the Talawana Track

Enjoy as it is a fantastic journey

cheers

Just done the Talawana and it was very corrugated. Don't forget fuel (diesel only I think) is available at Parnngurr (Cotton Creek) at $3.20 per litre.
Fresh veg and fruit, frozen meat etc. Plus you can top up your water.
It's not that far off the CSR so is good for travellers. Google it for phone number and call Ben the community coordinator and he'll advise you on fuel etc.
Cheers.

Thanks Cookie agree with the tyre pressures and with my heavy 75 series naturally aspirated Troopy I may have to go softer. Suck it and see it I'd say on that one.

Accept that corrugations are a fact of life on the track as well and thanks for the heads up where to expect them.

Chers
