Hi guys,
As per the topic I am currently looking at getting a folding boat trailer. I have 3.5 mt rooftop tinnie, weight about 75 kg, which I have to put on a ute mounted rack for transport to wherever we are going to set up for a while. This works ok but a bit of a pain when I have to take the outboard on and off each time. Having a ute there is plenty of room for a fold up trailer to be partially broken down for the journey. My plan is as many other do, to set the boat and outboard up and just take it the short distance to wherever we are going to wet a line.
So far the locally made (supposedly)
Mangrove Jack model seems to tick all the boxes, even being aluminium construction so pretty light weight in it's self. The price at around $2000 certainly seems up there considering the boat and outboard were only about $3300.
Any one had experience with any other brands available hopefully in the
Perth WA market?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Pop

Hi Pop,
If you can weld, and feel you can make your own, I can email you some photos of a steel "demountable' trailer which weighs about 35kg which you would have to build yourself or have some-one do it for you. It is a really simple unit and costs little. If you are interested, post a reply to this and I'll supply my email for you to contact me.
I'm not a member so can't PM.
Cheers, Bob

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your kind offer. I would be most grateful for any help regarding a trailer I could weld up myself.
The main reason,
well 2 actually, that I was looking at a ready made commercial one was that it will be basically a buy and use situation and that there may be a mob that have some sort of bulk licensing arrangement if I want to go the full road licence route.
I do have some welding skills and have knocked up various projects over the years including a bolt on camper body for the ute so the manufacturing is not something I would be in doubt about tackling.
Just getting lazy in my old age....lol.
Cheers

Hi Pop,
I bought a
Mangrove Jack trailer for my husband for his Christmas present last year and he just loves it. We returned yesterday from over 5 months traveling from East to West Coasts where it was used on numerous occasions. In one location in the
Pilbara it was used almost every day of the 30 days we stayed. It was certainly given a thorough
test and passed with flying colours.
It is so very quick and easy to assemble and disassemble and manufactured from top quality materials which is why it is expensive, but in our opinion, worth the extra cost.
We bought it because no part weighs more than 8 kgs, it is lightweight, and also because it was able to be registered for use on the roads (although in most
places we have used it so far, that wasn't really necessary). Living on the East Coast we had to pay shipment costs from
Perth too.
Sorry, can't help you with any other brands.Hopefully someone else can.
regards,
Heather
