Hi Mick, brings back some memorys for me, i worked on the Shire of Ashburton some years ago and knew very
well a
grader driver that used to grade those very tracks and looking at the conditions of them he may
well of been the last person to do so, i am certain they were graded as fire breaks and a lot were done in the "threat" of advancing fires, i even recall some being done at night, this guy knew it all like the back of his hand and could find his way around in the night out there ...... yes he was Aboriginal and from that area ........ spent time camping out with him and to be out there in those hills where very few had been and shut down the gen set and listen to the noises of the night was amazing, that was before some of the rail lines were in also and you could hear the trains coming from Para for many K's away ...... yep i was one of the few that was lucky enough to be legally stop and
camp anyware up there and light up a fire, try that now days ..... cheers Mick and
well put togeather ...........

Yes the upper tracks on the tableland area were in better condition but not from any recent grading these days. I think the compressed nature of the tyre tracks makes it pretty hard for the spinifex to get a hold again. Must are just wheel ruts. Anything with a slight incline soon gets eroded. It's beautiful country alright. I not that the Asbestos area (namely these and Yampire
Gorge) are still excised from the
Karijini National Park. I wonder how long that will last for?
Glad you enjoyed the blog and it bought a few memories back for you. Happy New Year and safe travels.
Mick
