Hi Val &
John. Now you are in farmiliar country but you have me a bit confused with your comments about the
Mount Surprise railway station. The line through
Mount Surprise is regularly used by the Savannahlander train from
Cairns to Einsleigh. So far as I know it is still running. And isn't the Atharton Tableland a slice of paradise.
Cheers, Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Well you learn something every day via this site. You are quite correct about the Savannahlander which (if my belated research is correct) does exist and is still running. The signs at Mt. Surprise may be out of date or maybe we misinterpreted them but we certainly got the impression that the line would be open sometime in the future!!! Though we were a bit perplexed by new steel sleepers in the line, and not much rust on the rails - now we know why.
I'm pleased though that the line is in use. We had never heard of this train, so thank you for drawing our attention to it and pointing our our error.
Cheers,
Val.
