Hey Heather,
Pigeon House is a good walk, but The Castle is even more impressive in its
views and variety of terrain, even though it's much more difficult - 14Km and 7-8 hours, and you still need a rope just before the top. It's considered by those who rate these things as one of the top ten day walks in the world.
Also, I'm not sure why James
Cook named it Pigeon House - everyone who's seen it knows what it really resembles !
Thanks for all your great stories, keep 'em coming !
Cheers,
Nic

Hi Nic,
With a group of friends we did a weekend walk to the Castle and Valley of the Gods about 6 years ago and carried our overnight gear up. I found it very difficult due to the weight on my back and struggled on the way back as
well.
My hubby didnt feel
well and thought he had indigestion/heartburn but insisted on helping me in the steeper bits. When we got
home I made him see a Dr and he was very quicly diagnosed with artery blockages. We went to
Sydney for an overnight routine angiogram and he had open heart surgery the same day so we were there for a week.
It was a close call - the artery blocked was described to me as 'the wodow maker' by the cardiologist.
I am lately tempted for us to return but just to do the day walk once the days get a bit longer. It has been long enough for me to forget the pain!LOL
Regards
Heather
