No Michelle; we went west to the CSR - you would have turned to the east??
Then down to
well 5 and exited thru Mary Mia stn via the
Carnarvon Ranges. Jeez it was a bit busy in the Carnarvons - vehicles were coming in for the sidetrip off the CSR instead of doing the Calverts. Once west of the Carnarvons we didn't see another vehicle till the GN Hwy. We loved the ranges - a mini Purnululu. Some sensational
views above
Serpents Glen and Virgin Springs, and the walk to the Cairn a great short walk across the scarp.
We're now back in
Perth, going to Europe early next month.
I don't know whether the track has a name but it's accurately indicated on both the Hema and Natmap maps.
Cheers.

oh dear, I see I got my east and west confused in my reply!
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the Canarvon Ranges - there was a bit of fuss over that region this season with the central desert native title
services issuing a release on 30/6/10 confirming that the access restrictions of the CSR permit means no access to the Canarvon Ranges. I have the letter here and will publish it - but it looks like ANOTHER permit system is being designed to cover the Birriliburu native title claim currently covered by the CSR permit to manage the Canarvon area more specifically. Locals also told me that a 20 vehicle convoy from the dept was heading there to document sites etc during the time of your trip - did you encounter them? I presume you and the other visitors you encountered had no issue. Oh
well, we don't have anything to do with the CSR permit - that is the realm of the National 4WD Council so I presume they have it under control!
Michelle
