Hello
John and Val. Crossing the East Baines in 1995 was a hair raising experience for us too. There hadn't been much traffic and it was as slippery as. In the end I opted for some
rock hopping to get away from the dark waters on our left!!. Put a hole in the fuel tank over the horror
limestone karst and later dented the bottom sill panel on an exposed tree stump crossing the river again. We enjoyed
Gregory NP and covered all of it then and again at a later date for Discover Australia by 4WD Books. Been to most
places on your journey. Good write up and pics.
Cheers, Willem

Hi Willem, Yes,
Gregory NP is another of those great
places, though by the time we'd reached it we'd become accustomed to so much change of scenery that we'd become partially imunised. Your dramas on the
river crossing and karst make ours seem very tame, though at the time they didn't seem that way!
As you will have gathered we didn't attempt the Carson Track which we'd discussed with you while planning. Having now seen Peter and Margaret's blog entries, I'm pleased we didn't, expecially in view of our vehicle difficulties.
Cheers,
