Does anyone know when travelling interstate can you still receive the original commercial TV network. i.e. GWN7 and WIN in SA or Imparja etc.. in WA ?
Thanks in advance

Hi Ian,
I have used vast TV all over OZ, when you renew, just renew for Australia, not just one state, then you have coverage.
One question regarding vast.
Why do you have to renew every 6 months to access their network ?, to me it is a stupid idea, it is not as if any money changes hands or there is any contractual obligations, but they insist that you renew your subscription every 6 months, the only thing I can think of is that they have a limited number that can use the satellite at any one time, seems unlikely, but that is the best I can come up with.

The 6 month renewal is only for travelers who want commercial TV, ABC and SBS isn't affected.

Barry, how do you renew for Australia? I have only ever to renew for one zone at a time although I realize yo can view that one zone all over Australia.
I think the 6 month renewal is something to do with not watching VAST in areas you shouldn't, as unlikely as that is.

Hi Rod,
I only ever renew through the dealer here in WA who sold me the system in the first place, I just tell him to renew for OZ.
I find vast are too slow at renewing, being in Qld it is a time thing, so it is easier to renew through the dealer, they have been fantastic so far.

Not sure what you mean exactly, but with VAST you receive all the channels in all states. When you arrange to change from the east to the west zone you get the channels originating in WA. To change zones phone the VAST office, they will do it as you wait.
Go to
The VAST TV Guide select your bouquet and then select '
Grid View' to view the programs.

Yes you can but of course it will still be on WA time. If you want to watch in local time you will have to change zones. Most of the programs are the same, except for the news, so for the time convenience you may be better off changing zones. It is just a matter of phone call to change. We changed to WA at
Southern Cross on the way west and back to Qld at
Esperance on the way back east.

Or you can email them at vast.administration@mysattv.com.au. Include your smart card number, state you are in and your name..I think that's all that's required.
More convenient than phoning I find.
regards,
Heather

Hi Ian,
We have been using vast for a few years we travel from QLD to W. A. Most years there is an easy way to change zones as you travel from state to state . You can do it yourself on the decoder box with your remote.
Go to menu, advanced options, local time -then change to whatever state you want . how easy is that. Also we just go online every 6 months and re-new our contract it is instant no waiting.(you can re-new up to 6 weeks before the due date)
Hope this helps.
Cheers Sue.

Hi Sue, from what you are saying you could jump backwards in the time zone at any time.
So if I travel east I can watch the local east coast news and then 2-3 hours later change the time zone to WST and then watch the news on WIN or GWN - is this correct?
The only problem I see here is the PVR is going to be very confused with scheduled recordings.

G'day Sue, I have just had a play with it. The only thing that happened was the time on the EPG and the time displayed when you press the 'Info' button displayed the time zone selected but the program being received stayed the same. In this case I was watching Qld and selected the WA time but the the program remained as the Qld one.
Some time ago I contacted VAST and inquired if more than one zone could be installed on a box and selected by the user. The answer was a resounding no. To change zones you are required to contact VAST. It does not take long to do, it happens while you are on the phone. You just need phone access.
Do you have some secret hand shake with the box?

Ian, the time is 14.23 I have just changed zones again the time changed to W.A 12.23 and speedway was on SBS our friends from
Tamworth also do the same procedure so we can watch some programs from W.A. at an earlier time. just make sure you accept the settings. most of the time we all get the same programs but the times vary from state to state.
No magic just works.

Hi Rod,
Just before Christmas we where in Dubbo to attend the "unlock the bush muster" least said about that the better, anyhow we had changed to local zone but at couple of times (8.00p.m) changed back to QLD time (7.00p.m.) to watch a program on channel 7. (we were out having dinner ) So the answer is yes. I have never asked the question to Vast why? we are able to do this as we have been doing it for the last 3years.
Also of interest our friends updated to the new Vast TV, the decoder is built in (no more box). he is also able to do the change on this
I think just try again on your next trip are you on the road all the time. We spend only 3/4 months at
home then start our trek over to the west again.
Regards Sue.

Hi Ian,
In short yes you can watch your local channels anywhere in Australia.
My vast system is set to central Australia time zone and watch it in all states where ever I travel. You only have time delay. So for an example, if the decoder is on WA time zone and you are in the east coast and want to watch the 6.00pm news it would be 9.00pm EDST before it was on ( a 3 hour difference). The time on the decoder will be WA time not NSW, QLD, VIC etc times.
I stay on the same time zone so I watch the same adds.
As for time it takes to change, I reactivated
mine online in 2 hours.
Cheers Andy
