Hi There,
Am planning a wee trip to Wyperfeld NP Victoria early March. Just wondering if anyone has any trips in regards of some 4wd-tracks, walking tracks and just general info prior visitation.
Cheers in advance!

G'day Erik,
One of my favourite areas of Victoria.
I was out that way a few weeks ago & the temps got to 45deg! so Spring or Autumn are the best times of the year.

The Milmed track that runs from East to West in the Big Desert a bit North of Wyperfeld is a great trip. Plenty of nice bush camps.

Plenty of info here.

Forgot to say you can link with the Milmed track by taking Chinamans well track just North of Netherby to make a nice multi day trip.
If you go in springtime allow LOTS of time for photo stops as the Orchids & wildflowers are great . You might also spot one of the elusive Mallee fowl.

Cheers
Stu

G'day Stu,

Thanks heaps, will have a read in to it and am pretty excited! I hope that it has cooled a wee bit by then. Is it ok the go solo? Have a winch and some basic recovery gear

Yep its fine to go alone. I always go in a solo vehicle with the love of my life. Between her birdwatching & my wildflower photography we tend not to cover many kays each day!
Just a few sandhills that are fine if you keep your tyre pressures down.
BUT if we get any heavy rain stay put as the claypans in between the hills become skating rinks! Dries out pretty quick though.

Thanks Stu and will take it all aboard. Am sure that even in autumn, there will be some great shots to be taken!

Will still be very hot and dry in march and I would delay until some autumn rain occurs.

Are we talking 35 plus on average or well in the 40's?

The Mallee was very dry in 2014 so not much growth some good recent rains but area likely to be still very sparse and needs a good wet winter to bring it back. Re temperatures, have a look at the BOM site for Walpeup and you will get a good idea of what can happen at that time of year.
