It'll never be allowed to see the light of day unless one or more of our multi squillion dollar corporations find a way of charging us for the "particles". lol

Yeah, had a look, SWMBO was unimpressed (no "handle" and nothing to hold onto, she said!) but the concept is great - small enough to carry in the tow vehicle, and with 16km range, good enough to get to and from the shops at most
places. Sorta like a Segway without the handlebars.

Hi all, I'm Steve from the above mentioned website air-wheel.com.au
Thanks for the comments. Ofcourse I am biased, but think they are pretty cool. I did just want to reply re the comment about not having anything to hold onto. Actually, because the platform self stabilises, you really don't need a handle. There is a similar product with a handle (Segway), but the real advantage of this thing, is that it folds up into a pretty compact item suitable to carry onto a bus or train etc.
They do actually come with a strap (called a safety strap), which is great for beginners (gives you something to hold onto and also allows you to stop it from falling on the ground if you come a cropper). However, pretty soon, most people get rid of the strap pretty quickly when they no longer need anything to hold onto.
Re an offroad version. All are pretty suitable once you are stable on the Airwheel, however, the X8 has a bigger wheel, making it really quite awesome for off road. That being said, my X3 had already seen quite a bit of off road action.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to buzz them here.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
Good to see you reply to comments, but ...
The
forum is for caravanners, getting it onto a train or tram is a fiar way from our minds (at least it is from
mine!) and the potential is for caravan park to shops type travels rather than commuter type.
As for the "nothing to hold onto" comment, that was ffrom my better half (aka SWMBO) and without her OK, we shall not be getting one - take that however you wish.
Stability is an issue, and "coming a cropper" is very far down the list of things we want to do. Perhaps, in addition (or as an alternative) to the strap, a clip on handle similar to an extended handlebar (??) might be an option. If we ditch that then so be it, but riding without any "visible means of support" is waaay outside the comfort zone for many of us over 60's.
