G'day everyone,
Heading up to Mildura, Broken Hill & Menindee lakes early November for a 10 day break.
We are after a nice friendly caravan park for 2 nights at Mildura. Will be Kim and I with our 11 YO son, Will.
We are camping in tents and want a park with facilities for Mr 11 YO as we will then be free camping. Spoil him first, then have some us time......
We are self sufficient and thinking of either Buronga or River gardens at Gol Gol.
I've heard that there is a jazz weekend on when we'll be there, so may need to book a site soonish.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi Rob, Kim and Will

While we chose to stay in the unserviced free camp on the Murray at Bottle Bend, Buronga Caravan Park on the banks of the Murray comes well recommended if you want to stay close.

More basic and a little further down the river the Apex River Beach Caravan Park would be good for a short family stay.

Hi Rob. As stated, Buronga is a very nice park. We have Just finished 2 week stay at Curlwaa, 5k east of Wentworth. Definately not 5star but clean, comfortable and quiet. Right beside historic Abotsford bridge and good value for money. Lots to see and do in the area if you have the time. The Silver City hwy then takes you straight up to Broken Hill or you can go to Pooncarie, Menindee and then Broken Hill. Copi Hollow is another nice place to stay at Menindee if you want. Cheers,Bob

If you want to go a little further, the Willow Bend caravan park on the Darling near the confluence of the Murray Darling in Wentworth is lovely.

Must have been a while since you were there Motherhen. Now overcrowded, overused, noisy and expensive for what you get. $20 a night at Curlwaa, only diference is it is not riverfront but river is only 100mtrs away. Bob

Hi Tc

Yes, we stayed at Wentworth in 2009 and shared with only a few other caravanners who were along the river. We had the area behind virtually all to ourselves. Friends with a young family spent couple of days there a week or two ago and didn't complain, finding it very pleasant.

What are they charging now? We paid $23 for a powered site in 2009 so I expect the price will have risen a few dollars. I have not updated the price on my website review as they don't show prices on their website.

Toyocrusa would have been in the district at the time of the Country Music Festival and school hols whereby all parks in Mildura are full and they even overflow into the local Sports ovals. Generally the Park in Wentworth is relatively quiet outside peak holiday times, so much so you can generally back your van right up to the rivers edge. Same at Buronga, Apex is a large spacious park with lots of room and adjacent to the River. The other Riverfront park to consider is Gol Gol. No affiliation to any, just been a local for 50 years.

We walked through the park one day and spoke to a group staying there. It was school holidays and the music festival. We were told it was $39 a night. The main comments were the noise from so many people staying there, not a lot of grass and hard to get in to the amenities. Where we stayed was 5 mins down the road. Cheers,Bob

Thanks everyone for some great feed back and suggestions.
This will be our first free camp trip at Menindee so we are very much looking forward to it. Opens up a whole new world to explore. A small drawback to some of the trips that we'd like to do is we have a low ground clearance 2 WD.
A couple of yabbie nets, fishing rods, great scenery and some tranquility equals a great time.
Have our 12V shower, tent and jimmy thunderbox, so far unused.
Will blog on our trip.
Happy camps to all.

Thumbs up for Buronga CP.
Pretty close to Mildura and a good camping area on the river, next to a good camp kitchen and the swimming pool within 100mtrs.
Good start for an 11yo.

Hi Rob, Kim and Will

As you have booked Borong CP make sure you all go on the Paddle steamer, we when on the "Melbourne " nice trip. As Borong is on one side of the ( river) NSW and Mildura, Victoria is the other, we had a bit of fun with our children crossing states a few times in a day !

Regards
Rich
