Hi all looking for some opinions on cheaper generators.
I had a Honda EU20i that was a great unit but someone decided they needed it more than I did.
I am now looking to buy another generator but thought that I might buy a cheaper brand possibly a Klukyne or something similar.
It will mainly be used to charge batteries in caravan and occasionally run the AC.
Has anyone had any experience with the cheaper brand units they could pass on.

I had one of those cheapie Kipor 770 watt ones from Bunnings, but it was a bit rowdy and it jumped all over the place. Didn't have 12v output either.
I was then given an old Yamaha EF600 suitcase generator which was in great nick but needed a new fuel pump.
I fixed the Yammie and sold the Kipor :)

Depending on your load requirements, I would go for a Kipor 2000, equivelent to the Honda 20ie. Or the Kipor 2600 which is a bit stronger. I have found this model most reliable.

You get what you pay for.
Generators are already 'persona non grata' for almost all campers. Nothing is worse than a chaff cuter ruining the silence at stupid hours.
By all means buy cheap. But be prepared to have it 'disappear'. Or stop for no reason.
Spend
well and be tolerated.

John or Regina M ,
It's the owners not the generator. I just did around 6,000 km in 4 weeks between
Adelaide and
Agnes Water and back. Central NSW is vrkn very cold and I used the genset 6 or 7 times. When not totally on my own, I approached the nearby happy campers if they minded if I ran it for an hour to heat the van before I went to bed at 8pm. They came for a drink, I got warm, everyone happy.
Smokers down wind are a lot worse than any generator used with consideration.

I've got the Kipor 2000, it is comparable with the Honda in all areas as far as I can see, or hear. It runs my Air Con, when needed, and seems to do it easier than a Honda I tried before I purchased the Kipor. It probably won't last as long as the Honda, but will most likely see me out.
About 1/2 to 2/3rds the price depending on the various specials available at the time.

Have recommended the smaller one for another member the other day. I have seen the EC1200 ran and it was very quiet. But if you like to run air conditioner, you will probably need at least EC2500 and EC3500.

Hi, Have found my eBay cheapie (4Kva) pretty good so far (3 yrs). Use it around the house to run a couple of electric chain saws & the house when storms cut the power. Has the one feature the Honda & others do not have. That is electric start. Great for me with a busted shoulder.
Will admit it seems louder than a Honda even with a stated & measured 59db output. When travelling & camping only run it during daylight & not at night.
eBay has a daily deal on today at $504 delivered anywhere in Australia. At this price can buy 4 for 1 Honda. Should cover a few years travelling. Bill
