What actually happens when you click on this button in a reply to a post? I tried to find an explanation on the
forum, but failed

It’s one of those useless yuppie things – when you click on it the person who posted the message gets a thank you email

By the way - you don't need to thank me

I've just assumed that it was a feature provided by the Exploroz team that allows appreciative posters to easily express appreciation for information provided by others. In fact, I'm sure that's what it is :-o).

You can switch it off Dennis. I believe that facility may have been put in as a result of my suggestion (and probably others). No need to thank me because I won't know about it anyway. :-)

Dennis; If you don't appreciate someone saying thanks and being courteous towards you then you can also switch the computer.
Bazooka. I find it quite handy to say that I agree with a someone.
Phil.

Thanks folks,
Nice facility, but seems silly to generate so many emails when one additional post can thank all who replied. Uhmm, like this one.

I use it to thank the person who posted the words that I "thank". Not everyone. I may not agree with everyone. The "Thanks" email only goes to the user who posted the words you thank. More personal and meaningful.
One would say that it's a bit old fashioned like when we sent individual Christmas cards instead of the email "to all". I hate them.
Not so silly when you think of it in that way. I never think of a "thank you" being silly.

Hi
It was implemented by request of many
forum users. I can see Dave shaking his head after reading some of the comments above. You don't have to use it if don't want to and you can also turn off the receipt of "thanks" emails...so no harm done to the non-believers :)
Cheers
Greg

All
well and good, Greg.
What I would love to see is a 'like' and 'unlike' button.
Might help to curb any trolling, whingeing or inappropriate threads and give a 'heads up' to the moderators.
Just my thoughts, lol.
Cheers,
Dennis

Original THANKS thread
Pretty sure that was discussed when David first raised the idea Dennis - and thankfully dismissed.

@ Dennis P (Bullaring. WA)
Hi Dennis
Best to use the "Moderator Alert" button for threads/posts that appear to breach
forum rules ( e.g. trolling, inappropriate etc). Unfortunately "whingeing" (unless off topic/trolling) is currently not in breach of any
forum rules so in most cases we have to grin and bare it :)
Cheers

Good day Greg
Don't you dare change it to a "Like" or "Unlike" button. It's good that people have to really think sometimes instead of just pressing the Borg community wide "Like" ones as in Facebook and Twitter (back yard rumor sites).
How many people say "Like" when you help them by opening the door. Not many.

Hello
I do not have the capacity to change anything in this regard. Like you and everyone else I can only provide my opinion on forum/site layout. It's Dave's baby.
Don't really have an opinion on social medias use of the word "like" - doesn't seem to do too much harm so think I'll continue not to care.
Cheers
Greg
