Not sure if this is relevant to this site, looks off topic to me!
Just my opinion

A means of cooking, without fuel, and you think that's off-topic to campers?
Cheers,

What a fab thing for poor and developing nations with limited access to energy sources. Not much chop for evening dinner though.
Only yesterday I was watching 'Bang Goes The Theory' (SBS 6pm) where they had a solar dish and were able to melt metal (easily) and
rock!!! Can't recall the temperature of the concentrated beam but it was bl..dy hot!
Just found a Utube link to part of the story - 3500 degrees C at the focal point of this particular unit! The full story also showed other "furnaces" including a large outdoor dish which had an impressive energy harnessing capability.
Bang Goes The Theory - extract
Just found the full program (replay) on the SBS website for anyone interested. Another good reason for investing in non-carbon energy.
Episode 23, including solar furnaces

This product is already available here in Australia under a different name. In fact, the people we get the
Solar Kettle Solar Kettle from also have a Sola'brolic BBQ on their product list that is almost exactly the same thing as this. (It comes in a flat box for storage). We didn't initially think we'd get enough sales, so haven't decided to go ahead with bringing it into our inventory, but we can get it if we get enough interest??
FYI - It's made from carbon steel, with vacuum aluminum film as the reflector, puts out 1800W on a sunny day, has >1.8 square metre focal area, the dish has a diameter of 1.5m and its net weight is 15kg. Flat packed it is 80x71x10 (cm).
Retail cost is $245. Our supplier is an Australian company.

Fans though we are of solar energy, why would you spend all that dosh on a big bulky, heavy item when for one tenth of the price and a similar fraction of the weight you can have a small gas stove.
Also this could be dangerous to children and possibly not too good if you get an eyeful of sunlight from the dish.
Cheers,
Val.
