I am still looking for a 7 pin plug to 12 pin socket adaptor for emergency towing. I have had to make my own one up. If anyone knows where I can get one pleads post details.

I think you missed what Shaker said, A 7pins plug will plug into a 12pin socket on the bottom row of pins and is wired ZACHARY the same. True PLUG,N,PLAY situation.
Thanks Shaker, good work.
Unless Ann requires the whole 12 then problem SOLVERED.

I read this as a 12 pin plug on the cable to the van and Ann currently has a 7 pin socket on the rear of the car.
Is that correct Ann?
I saw a whole bunch of adaptors at Bunnings today. It may be there.

i think a flat 7 pin male fits into a flat 12 pin female , and a flat 12 pin male wont go ino a flat 7 pin female.
i think i got that right.

Wrong!
the seven pin will plug into the bottom row acording to the add in my c/van book.
But find one and
check as there may be different brands of 12 pin plugs.

I think I said that about 15 posts ago, suppose it will go on for about a week in typical ExplorOz fashion.

I have a NARVA 12 pin socket on my Pajero, and an old Lumen 7 pin flat plug on my caravan. The 7 pin fits perfectly into the Narva socket.

Yes, they are designed to be backwards compatible, provided you follow the rules and have the plugs fitted where they should be fitted.
12 or 7 pin socket on the vehicle.
12 or 7 pin plug on the trailer.
7 goes into 12, however 12 will not fit in 7. Makes sense actually.

So that should read 12pin only on the vehicle. Bob.

7 into 12 does go but 12 doesn't into 7
Simple maths.

I am yet to see any adaptors that have a 12 pin female socket or a 12 pin male plug on then. If anyone has seen them please advise of the brand and the
shop you spotted them in. There are plenty of other combinations though.
I can rarely find the plugs or sockets in one of the auto chain stores when I want them. I usually mail order them. It's quicker than stuffing around the stores looking for them.

Ann, I'm afraid that you will have to refit the tug with a 12 pin socket. You will find that the fridge and/or battery feeds are wired into the large pins on the 12 pin plug. Find out the wiring details for pins 8 to 12 are for the van.
I suggest you don't rewire the van with a 7 pin plug. If the hot wire from the battery to the socket on the tug you will burn the pin out if you run the fridge through the small pins (if the wiring in the tug is heavy enough to power the fridge properly.) The wiring for the large pins from your battery should be at least 6 square mm in cross section. Any less and your fridge will not work very
well. The voltage drop will be too great.
To stop the fridge from flattening your starting battery when you stop for a while, get a relay wired in circuit. Have the relay controlled by the ignition switch so the fridge will only run when the motor is running.
If you need to tow other trailers with 7 pin plugs then they will mate with the 12 pin socket as stated above.
