We are soon to leave for the CSR and have made all the arrangements with permits. Last thing to organise is the fuel drop at
Well 23. We have been trying to ring
Capricorn Roadhouse and we are getting no help. Has anyone made arrangements for fuel this season and who did you contact.

Start saving....we got ours at Kunawarratji last year at the cost of $3.40 a litre.
It hurt at the time as we all needed over a 100 litres each, but we had to have it and there were no complaints just a few deeply drawn breaths:-)
Plenty of water available for top ups plus good showers as
well.
Enjoy the trip.

Alan,
Having a chat with Graham jnr.at Kunawarrjji in 2011 The Road Train (3 trailers) freight cost from
Alice Springs was at that time $18,000.00 I felt $3.20 they were then charging was pretty good value.
The showers and use of washing machine for $8.00 was pretty good value as
well.
Mike.

Kate is normally the lass who organises the fuel for the
Well 23 dump. We arrived at the
Capricorn Roadhouse in July last year to find our two drums present but others not so fortunate. 4 drums delivered the previous Friday had been stolen in a quick snatch-grab. Thankfully ours and one other drum remained. We were very fortunate as we were running on vapour by this time after two weeks in the wilds (we would have got to Cotton Creek though).
Be warned, quality control is not the best either. The first thing out of my drum was 2 litres of water and crap. Thank god I had a "Mr Funnel" with me. I would recommend that anyone filling with drums in the outback carry something similar.
Our 2012 experiences are covered here;
Talawana to Capricorn Road House (Well 23)
Cheers Mick

Hi Leanne
In view of the risks,
Kunawarritji is not all that expensive. Yes, it was the highest price we have paid for fuel, but as part of the overall cost of a trip, it was not a huge slice of expenditure.

We, 2 cars, shared a drum from
Well 23 and had no problems, cost us $3.00 per litre for a 200L drum ( $600.00 ) as opposed to the $3.40 p/l and an abrupt Graham and his joyful wife, I have stated before that the locals get the fuel cheaper than us travellers.
I would have no problems in getting fuel again from
Well 23.
cheers
