no gears in 96 hilux

suddenly lost all gears in Hilux LN106, there was a mild clunck noise then nothing. Any ideas?

If I was a betting man I would say it could be your transmission.....somewhere.
It could be one of many.

You haven't bumped the transfer case into neutral have you? That's the quickest way to lose all gears.

or break an input shaft. I would be hoping for yours though Tim.

the sleeve on the back of the output shaft to the transfer will have broken. Fairly common.

thanks Steve, it ended up being the clutch, it completely failed, we were a little bewildered after checking the gearing and not finding any problem, a quick look at the clutch revealed the problem. clutch was not very worn, so just unlucky I guess. cheers

Sounds like what happened to us in our Landcruiser once; all gears gone from the one clunk which we thought would have only taken out one gear. A night of drama getting recovered and a few thousand $$s to get gearbox rebuilt :(
