The Jeep diesel is 3.0lt, the 3.6lt is a petrol motor.

I did the SA/Vic
border track with person who owns the Jeep in link mentioned by Dunc. I was very impressed. And yes he is what you might call obsessional about his research when purchasing a vehicle or van etc. Great chap who will let you know the pros and cons straight up.

I owned a V8 petrol Grand Cherokee for around 7 years and loved it. The diesel would be awesome. I never had a problem but replaced some gas struts on the back door which I imported from the US for a fraction of the price of the local dealer.
They are very capable off road and in my experience, reliable.
I have heard the new traction system doesn't like sand and that they can self combust. Baah!

I have heard on the grapevine about the "sand Issue" but have no written evidence or stories.

There are plenty of instances of the sand issue on ausjeepoffroad.com. There is a software update that supposedly fixes it but you have to ask it seems. I drive an earlier Grand diesel and would buy another one. I do NOT like the position of the
parking brake on the new model. It hits my shin during normal operation.

hi
for an insight into the jeep sand driving problems
read previous threads 98034 /98446/99990 a software fix was introduced following 4x4 aus editor delving into it via jeep Australia
but i'm of the belief that you have to bring it to the jeep dealers attention where you buy your jeep from to get it installed
cheers

A fellow I work with bought a diesel earlier this yr and said it's terrific he raves about the ride from the air bag
suspension incredible amount of power from a diesel and the fuel economy is fantastic he has owned a few 4WD's over the yrs Toyota's ,Nissan's and said this is the best one by far.
